ANything else wrong with the car, that you can think of? <_<
-
motjebben: I think you should try it out. The CompUSA cost seems pretty low, and there's isn't much of a chance for one to mess it up. Let us know if it work. :magic:
-
I don't use anything other than Mobil 1 Synthetic. I know my car will continue to purr like a kitten for years to come. :)
-
thanks jswett motjebben: I'm guessing that's what this guy is doing in the first place. I believe the older cars have the same Cold-cathoyd running in the dashboard. There are some LEDs in the dashboard but not for the guage needles.

Single Turbo Or 2jzgte Engine Conversion...
UCF3 replied to naturalatlas82's topic in 92 - 00 Lexus SC300 / SC400
another question for you AJ. On the stock Limited Slip, have you experienced any lag time? For some odd reason, I can't even make my tires spin. I'm guessing I need another limited Slip or it could be a factory Lexus thing. If it's a stock issue, I might consider getting a TRD version Limited SLip. -
Is your source a private person or is he willing to put his name on the forum? This way, if we have an issue, we can just call him when needed.
-
Your right. I should have been more specific and mentioned the Limited Slip Differential.
-
Good. The original ones should last at least seven, even in the hot desert. Do you have something heavy on your trunk, like a non-stock spoiler? I ask because I'm kind of curious why they wore out so quickly.

Single Turbo Or 2jzgte Engine Conversion...
UCF3 replied to naturalatlas82's topic in 92 - 00 Lexus SC300 / SC400
AJ: How much did you pay for your turbo on the GE Engine? I think I'm convinced that just turboing the Stock Engine would be efficient enough, than going with the Engine Swap I was thinking of going with. THe GTE engine will give you higher horsepower opportunities, but there is a point before the car becomes to hard to handle on normal roads. 525RWHP is sufficient for street use. beyond that, you are likely to loose control over your car, and it will start to drive you; speaking from experience, I've crashed one F5k car. The excess torque got to me when i came upon my first hairpin. :chairshot: I would definitely recommend lowering the car once you've modified the engine. It will help. -
Seriously Considering Buying '92 Sc400
UCF3 replied to boopie's topic in 92 - 00 Lexus SC300 / SC400
Chris: The only issue I can think might be a problem with this car is electrical. When I bought mine, I had a couple of errors with the lighting system in my car. I believe it could be due to the interstate battery. Yeah, I know that couldn't be the culprit since it's just a battery. But since the dealer has serviced the car throughly, it won't be an issue. You should have a stock Toyota Battery. As long as you take care of the car after your purchase, the car will continue to purr, even after 200k. MIne has 184000 miles and is still running at peak performance. I hope you bought the car. It will grow on you. -
Aftermarket/custom Tail Lights
UCF3 replied to naturalatlas82's topic in 92 - 00 Lexus SC300 / SC400
Nobody in the US has made altessa taillights for the SC. Signal Auto in Japan has, but since they don't have it state legal, you might be harassed local police :( . Also, the lights are not very bright. Mainly for city driving. -
you should have a rear differential. The differential is similar to traction control, without a chip running it. If you're trying to run the SC in snow, the differential will not slow the car down, but will allow your car to run evenly Left and right. I had a lot of fun drifting around during our snow days here.

Definitely save it as a JPEG(.jpg). I'm not sure if the GIF is enabled on this forum, but once you've shunk it to size, I would also recommend you uploading your original image to the CLub Gallery. Don't forget to save the original under JPEG (.jpg) otherwise you might get one of those errors you mentioned. Thanks and welcome to the Forum.

Todd: The plug should be squarish, and should be female. Most LS400's with the Pioneer don't come standard with it. It's usually a dealer install after you buy the car. As for what you have from United Radio, it doesn't sound like Bill doesn't have a genuine Lexus part. He might be trying to sell you an aftermarket Pioneer system. The part that pushed me was when he mentioned "Remote". The actual LS400 part would not include a remote. It's connected directly to your onboard Pioneer system. Only in that case will the wiring harness in the trunk, if you have one, will be useful. Otherwise the aftermarket will be running through a FM Modulator. It runs on one of the frequency settings of your stock radio. It can S^k sometimes. I was recommending United Radio thinking you might have a stock one, and it might be performing poorly. Sorry, didn't mean to mislead you. If you're interested in getting an OEM CD changer, I can get you one a little cheaper than what the dealership will charge. Since I will be getting parts from the manufacturer in bulk, I might be able to get it cheaper than $1k the dealers like to charge. PM me if you're interested in that.

what's the year and model of your car. I'll get it for you

Todd: If your car didn't come stock with the CD changer, chances are there isn't a wire for it in the trunk. If you can pull back the carpets and don't see an extension cable on the right side, chances are you don't have it. But I would recommend checking with the dealer and ask them where they mount the changer on your year's LS400. If you have a stock Pioneer, United Radio Service in Syracuse, NY can rebuild it for you. http://www.unitedradio.com/auto_main.shtml I changed my radio because I wanted to have a better functioning stereo. Plus I wanted to add a NAV system. So I opt'd for the more expensive DVD/NAV and CD changer stereo with remote display console. One of these days I'll post it on this website and show everybody.

For what kind of bulbs you have, check your owners manual. One of them is the high beam and the other is the low beam. Definitely change the low beam. You might want to change your parking lights to something of a light blue or violet. This way it would look similar. As for the products you can buy, I would recommend the site in the post. SPWUSA. So far I'm using their product on the 94 LS and in the process of getting 9006 for my SC.
-
I've never experienced that problem. I'm guessing on this but it could be a sensor issue, like the Throttle Pressure Sensor might be bad or malfunctioning. I would recommend checking it out.

Actually, I have a red SC300 and a Black LS400.

Seriously Considering Buying '92 Sc400
UCF3 replied to boopie's topic in 92 - 00 Lexus SC300 / SC400
I agree with AWJ. Throughly check the car out, paint, hinges, electronics, and others. I still recommend paying the $150-250 Pre-certification inspection done through Lexus. Yes they may not find all of the records for the car, but it's okay. If Lexus checks the car out, you can rely on it. If Lexus gives you an estimate on repairs, believe it's an over-estimation. Lexus tends to put everything on an estimate that they think it may be. You can also use any estimate what Lexus believes it to be as a bargaining tool. I managed to knock $700 of an already cheap car. If you have any major repairs after your purchase, we'll help you fix it. Just post something on the Forum, and we'll walk you through it. There are some things you might not want to do yourself. Then take it to a well-reffered mechnic, who is familiar with Toyotas, and they'll fix the problem with a low cost. Over-all your cost is lower than what you would expect paying at the dealer. My SC has been running maintenance free for the past 4 months. Just an oil change that I had done at Walmart because I was lazy and a problem with my Taillight indicator. Enjoy :) -
congrats on fixing the problem. If you can, see if you can create an abridged version for fellow users. Thanks for creating it.

Seriously Considering Buying '92 Sc400
UCF3 replied to boopie's topic in 92 - 00 Lexus SC300 / SC400
It's definitely a good car, but it may not be worth $9650. Check the car out first, through Lexus as well as yourself. I own the LS400, similar to SC400's engine, and that's purring. Definitely check out whether it's a cold climate car. The underbody where rust and wear is severe. If that is the case, car may not be worth it to you. If the car doesn't have too many problems that show up on Pre-Certification testing, then the car is definitely worth it. As for maintenance. Cost can be high if go through the dealers. Oil changes, filters and others are very simple to do-it-yourself'rs, and shouldn't cost that much. If you're satisfied with your Lexus survey, the car won't need any major mainetance, except for the timing belt at 120,000. Fuel wise, it depends on how often you drive the car and how you drive. If you drive conservatively like grandpa, no problem, but if you drive like I do on weekend, not worth it. I hope this helps to some degree. I hope you're not paying the $2.00/gallon I paying over here! If you choose to buy this car, definitely bargain $1-2k less than what they are asking for, and off course post any problems you might have with the car on this post. Most of us here are quite knowledgeable when it comes to taking care of our cars, and can also point you in the right direction when it comes to parts. -
Both are do'able. I'm going to do a GTE conversion instead of adding Turbos. There are several turbo companies. Start with HKS-USA. They have a turbo that will fit the GE Engine. There is another SC Related board that talks about a company in Chicago who you should talk to.

Aren't the Fog lights 9004? I might be wrong for your year. I hope the site works for you.

Hey Guys: Wanted to know if anyone has had this problem. I replaced all of the bulbs in the tail housing, checked the connectors and made sure all the lights were working. Turned the lights on, and the little dash indicator is still on. I even took it to Toyota, and they checked the entire circuit, but couldn't find a solution. Any thoughts?
