  1. ouch. Sorry to hear about your troubles. There are a number of people on the forum who have discussed this issue. You should search through the forum and you'll find out why you should service and drive your car. Here is one to start with http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...showtopic=49491 $394 isn't that bad. it could have been worse. Since the car was sitting for 3yrs have you looked at the other areas, oil, battery, brake fluid, steering fluid, transmission fluid level, leaks underneath the car, tranny, suspension, tire pressure, and tread life of the tires?
  2. I agree, it won't hurt to replace it with Freeze12, but you'll have to service or replace your compressor down the road. Freeze12 has an extra additive to make it a bit more environmentally friendly compared to r12 and r134. that's what causes it. Did you find a good shop to service it?
  3. Like lexusHam said very easy to do. BTW what kind of aftermarkets are you going to install in it's place? let us know how they look after you're done. Wow, somebody needs to clean their engine bay.
  4. Try to apply some sealant around the antenna mask. I believe that's where the water is leaking from, and Toyotas are notorious for this problem.
  5. Most of the parts mentioned can be swapped out with Supra parts, since the back end is from the Supra. Visit a couple of the Pinned Threads in the SC300/Sc400 Forum and there are a number of Websites like Intellexual that have posted replacement parts guides.
  6. Is it choking/hesitating while idling or something else? Check your battery terminals and see if they're clean. You don't want to buy a brand new gauge cluster or Climate Control unit. Lexus will charge you an arm and a leg. Search the forum for Gauge Clusters and Climate control. You'll find a number of CA based shops that will replace the bulbs and clean the terminals.
  7. there might be a R34 upgrade kit available. Search the forum for A/C refrigerants.
  8. oh yeah, it's really hard to find a 5sp Sc3. I searched for six months, and ended up with a 95 with a 188k, and a serious front end collision to it. You don't have to worry about the front covers. You can buy a 97+ front cover that will fit on the other years. I came across this entry. Don't know if you want to buy a modified Turbo car http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?ct=p...mp;cardist=2258
  9. We've had this issue addressed in the past. Have you searched the forum for the answer? There is a possible quick fix solution with pictures.
  10. What exactly are we trying to do, replace the bulbs or the housing itself? Also you don't have to take the front cover off. You can remove it from the engine bay
  11. Without looking at the car, most likely. what did the tech say? $50/hr is how much my Toyota Certified Master Tech charges me when I'm lazy.
  12. just wait until you can buy them. The error code will remain there.
  13. Puddle? Drivers side or passenger?
  14. you could try to fix it yourself. Find a good toyota Mechanic. A lot of them do side jobs, stop by on a Saturday after 2pm and some of the Mechanics might offer to do the jobs the following week. Most of the leaks can be solved in your driveway. You've gotta search through this forum and Club Lexus. You should find easy ways to handle the Valve gasket, distributor O ring, radiator replacement, and the trunk latch. The trunk is held up by two shocks like the Front hood is. PepBoys, NAPA and the Toyota Dealer should have Truck stuts. Radiator replacement, valve gasket and distributor ORing same place sources. They are relatively cheap to buy there; it's the labour that racks up the bill. Gauge Cluster you can send it out to Mikado Industries in San Francisco. Search the LS400 Forum, I've placed the address there. It's about $2-300 to replace all the bulbs and cleaning out the connectors. Th Rear engine seal, you'll probably need access to a lift. save that for the dealer or AAMCO The Spiral Cord for the Airbag, I'd buy that new from the dealer as well. Now here's the bad news; anything related to the engine and transmission will end up costing you more money to fix because there's a reason why the leaks happened in the first place. The last owner or you didn't maintain the engine and transmission like it's supposed to be. Here's an example; with your Radiator being busted; since i don't know what caused it I'm thinking your water pump, thermostat, rubber hoses and a number of seals need to be replaced. This is why I was saying find a cheap Toyota Mechanic who is willing to fix all your major leaks for $5-600. Most if not all will be labour $$$. You maybe able to have him/her replace the Trunk Struts, and the Spiral cord for free. I've never replaced the spiral cord myself so I can't say about how he'll charge you, but if it's not easy to get to they'll try to charge you. If you can get them all done at the same time. Most of them work quickly if they don't have to search for new parts. Good luck and keep asking questions
  15. Ebay or a Junk Yard would be my second choice. I'd go with the dealer ones because it's brand new. You should stop by Toyota and see if they have something that's compatible.
  16. Only 51k. WOW!!
  17. It sounds like the pulley isn't moving. also check how much coolant is returning to your Reservoir.
  18. Is it set to Max Cold, and are you pressing the Auto Button while in max cold? If they are set for max cold and Auto adjust the temp to Max Hot anything higher than 70; it should from recirculate to Circulate. If not I'm in the same boat.
  19. KeyStone Automotive aftermarket also refinishes wheels. I wasn't satisfied with their work when I had my 18s done, but you guys might have better luck.
  20. sounds like the Traction control sensor light, or SLIP Light. What year is your SC? http://www.aa1car.com/library/warning_lights_lexus.jpg
  21. I don't know. GM engines and transmissions have generally worked out very well for me. It's the electricles that have given me problems in the past but after replacing the stocks with aftermarkets, it's worked. A friend of mine in Cali once swapped his stock 280z engine with a 383 stroker LT1. very nice and loud. How about you?
  22. there should be a couple of screws you can reach behind the MudGuard. The light connector is also there.
  23. we won't http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showforum=10
  24. Very interesting swap. How does it sound, and when you drift ask someone to video it. sent us the Link. I'm interested in hearing it.
  25. Hey Guys: Need your help. Can anyone put me in touch with a JDM retailer/distributor selling a 2jzgte with 6speed transmission imported from Japan? I'm not quite interested in buying a new engine-transmission pair from Toyota since they're going to charge me too much. thanks
