  1. Shoot for 5-6 but it really depends on the automotive market you're in.
  2. Wait, how much coolant is leaking? take a look at your main hoses from the radiator to the engine. if you feel moisture then troubleshoot from the radiator back.
  3. what year is the GS? if they're the same years it should inter-change. You can also try SRT Performance. They have a couple of Air boxes for the SC4.
  4. usually it's pressure built-up while operating the vehicle. also if you've over filled it.
  5. All of them will fit the engine bay and tranny housing. most of the parts will line-up. Some of the electrics may need to be re-couple between the 96-00 pretty much all parts are inter-changeable. Some Supra Turbo parts will work as well.

  7. I'd ask him/her why he's willing to sell it that cheap. Also have it checked-out by a mechanic(trusted or the Dealer).
  8. Are you sure you don't have a Starter-Motor issue? Also when you say "car cranked and cranked but no ignition..." are you referring to Clicks or is really attempting to start but no turn-over? If it's just clicking, keep on turning it and you'll get a signal.
  9. I'd expect about $3-4k but shoot for the highest amount. Dealers and insurance companies use NADA.com a lot.
  10. GTE is the Actual Engine Spec. for the Twin Turbo. the MArk IVs should have been the only 2JZ engine offered with a Twin-Turbo; the older one 7MEGTEs, 1jzgte, I believe, were single. GTTE is based on what people thought it should have meant. GE and GTE stands for Generated Engine and Generated Turbo Engine(GTE) I'd stay away from the Ebay engines. Don't really know what you'll get, and might end up spending more. There is Florida based company who rebuild stock engines you can try, but I'm sure the best ones should be in California

  12. I guess I'm 36.. Magnaflow is okay. It's your preference that counts. opt for a High-Flow Cat if you want to stay legal. It also depends on where you live in AL. They may not enforce the Cat rule. You only need 2.5-3.0" piping. Custom piping is recommended, and the more straight you can keep the piping the less restrictive your exhaust will be. A catless exhaust is going to be rather loud and you may get some flames.

  17. With regards to the brakes. There aren't too many. Usually bigger rotors stop more. They're are aggressive 12/13" rotors available from Brembo or like the custom ones from Wilwood I have. You could check out the the part# for the Supra Brakes and see if match your SC4, since they vary from year to year. When I was upgrading mine. the fronts were similar to the ones on the LS400, but the rears were closer to the Supra. Still needed to be modified with spacers. Now that's the proper way. There are some Cross-Drilled or Slotted rotors on Ebay that will be better than the stock setup. You just have to remember the pads Carbon-ceramic are a bit more aggressive than the OEMs, but you won't need to resurface the rotors that much. Also, consider changing the Brake fluid. Motul, Redline, or Royal Purple work very well with aftermarket brakes. That should help with your brakes.
  18. there might be a hairline crack that you're not able to see from there or somewhere near by. See if you can buy some Oil dye. Before you add it, drain your oil, and thoroughly clean the oil area. I've used BrakeClean and let it dry. Add cheap 5w30 or 10w30 oil(Walmart with the dye. Let it run for 10-20 minutes and use the blacklight. That should show the leak.
  19. This is a good install. Do you have any pics from the dashboard/Radio upgrade?
  20. Single turbo. Less low end torque usually helps these smaller engines(3 vs 5/4.7Litre). for what you're trying to do (300-500bhp) you won't need to go with bigger turbo, and you could opt for a Hybrid turbo(t3/t4) but be careful with them because they worp your internals every easily. I've talked to Turbo Technics when I was racing in Europe, and they warned about the shortcomings of the turbos. A front clip from a Soarer w/ the 1jz should include the engine and transmission for about 4k if you search. Is phil locating the supra or soarer clips for you?
  21. what transmission do you have, or want to have? Also who's doing the work, Shop or you/Friend? I'd probably go with the engine swap. you can get a rebuilt or low mileage used Supra Turbo engine 2jz-GTE (pre-VVTi) or the 1zj-GTE, since you're in Hawaii, you should be able to find both imported from Japan. The blown Head will cost you via a shop 12-1500, and then via a shop 200-800(shop fees) + $2-4k for the turbo kit, plus a few other parts.
  22. $1500, that sounds better. That includes parts and labour? What else did the Mechanic say you need to replace?
  23. I think the alarm technician needs to go through the car with a wiring diagram, and try to figure what was cut in the previous install. Usually it involves a wire from the ignition switch which has been cut and needs re-connection. You will probably have to pay him for 3 or 4 hours of diagnostic time. If he is not comfortable with "older systems" maybe he can refer you to someone else. Not sure if you've tried this before. Try disengaging your Factory Alarm via the driver's door. Most aftermarket alarms run independently from the Factory one.

  25. That's a good point. You should also have some residue of fuel in the new Fuel Rail otherwise the pump or the filter is stopping the correct compression from getting to your engine.
