  1. Rich, how long did it take you to replace your alternator. I'm pretty sure mine is going out. I can hear a faint chirp once in awhile from the alternator and I see a some PS fluid caked ontop of it. When I drive sometimes the battery, brake, oil, etc lights come on in the dash for no reason. When I rev it up they go away after so many RPMs (6K+?). Then it will do it again later. Today it did it quite a bit. It was annoying. I think the alternator is about to give up the ghost? Do you have a online step by step that you can point me too? I replaced some stuff (alternator, radiator, theromstat<-that was harder than it sounds) on my old 300ZX's which was difficult. I got use to the cramped space and I did a lot of my own work on my Z32. I have a '91 LS400 shop manual that I'm borrowing from a friend. I'll look thru it tonight. So I need to replace the O ring on the PS pump then replace the alternator. That is a bad place where they put that PS pump. A design flaw by Lexus. I'm sure it has to do with limited space more than anything? There are not too many flaws on the LS400 but the placement of the alternator and the starter is 2 of them. The starter is buried in the back, rear of the engine. As you know... I looked in the manual tonight and it looks fairly easy: 1. Disconnect battery 2. Remove drive belt: Remove raditator upper hose, Loosen drive belt tension by turning belt tensioner clockwise, remove belt. 3. Remove engine under cover plastic 4. Remove alternator from beneath - unhook +/-, unbolt I want to fix the PS pump O ring when I'm in there as well. Do I do it from underneath after I remove the alternator?
  2. Women Can't Drive -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lost motorist ends up on airport runway (This is an actual report) TAMPA (Reuters) - A Florida driver made one wrong turn too many and ended up on an airport runway this weekend, forcing the delay of at least two flights, airport officials said Tuesday. "She was on a runway staring at a 737," Scott Loper, assistant director of operations at Tampa International Airport, said, though he noted the driver, Luz Arce, had not come within 1,000 feet of any aircraft. Airport police said that Arce drove through a closed airport gate marked with "Do Not Enter" signs at about 7:10 a.m. EST Sunday, ending up on the runway. Airport firefighters saw her drive through and jumped into a truck to pursue her, but could not reach her before she forced the delay of at least two flights. "She was driving pretty quick," Loper said. Arce was taken into custody within a few minutes and charged with driving while intoxicated and trespassing. She told police she had got lost while driving home from a party after fighting with her boyfriend. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Why do her emotions have to be expressed from behind the wheel of her car which caused 2 flights to be delayed? A car is not an extension of your emotions.
  3. Maybe it's no secret? Ok, here's an article from Rush Magazine> http://www.rushmagazine.com/displayarticle.php?id=440 Women Can't Drive You've heard the complaints about women drivers, either from your friends, your family, or your own mouth. Don't pretend that you don't at least silently curse the woman who nearly just killed you, because she was paying more attention to getting her eyeliner on straight, than staying in her lane... but here's what a psychic I am: I know that you do this for the elderly, teens, and basically every ethnicity on the road. Actually, I know plenty of people that will curse even their own peers. Are they all worthy of contempt, or is it true that women just can't drive? Yes, we know that most people are lousy drivers. There are very few great drivers on the roads out there, especially if you're driving in Los Angeles. What is the criteria for being a good driver? This is something that's going to be very debateable, unless it's cut down to the lean: a good driver is one who doesn't get in accidents, doesn't cause them, and is able to get out of a dangerous situation when they find themselves in one. You could say that the skills involved in all of those are much like those needed to win races, or generally drive like a maniac, but a martial arts grandmaster isn't great because he beats people up, he's great because he's got the ability, but practices restraint. One thing is for sure, a good driver pays attention to the road, and is able to keep track of traffic around him or her. People who don't like to drive don't do this very well. That said, the average woman is still a level below the average man, for three important reasons, which are as follows. Click above (top) to read the whole article...
  4. Not at all actually. Your 4 accidents are so statistically insignificant when compared to all accidents as a whole, it doesn't prove anything either way who hit you. The law of averages doesn't even begin to come into play. In all honesty, being hit 4 times is somewhat of a anomaly. How long have you been driving? Still wouldn't be statistically significant, but better. The fact is, the personal experiences of one man, or even of every member of this board cannot be attributed to a statistical truth. There's just far too many people out there. Thats what starts a prejudice, the experiences of one man that he arrogantly attrinutes to the experiences of everyone. One man gets mugged by a black man, he thinks that all white men have been mugged by only black men, therefore all black men are muggers. Now he's a racist. One man gets treated badly by a cop, so all cops must be abusive, now he's a cop hater. Its not meant to be an insult, its human (and especially American) arrogance. We all do it, we all assume that our own experiences are the norm, because of course who would live differently than us? Most people are almost entirely incapable of putting themselves in someone else's shoes. As someone trained in Psychology I just find it fascinating. If it weren't for the money and the schooling, I'd do it for a living in a heartbeat. I really believe this may be SW03ES's wife replying as of late? I dunno? I'm probably wrong? It doesn't matter... Ok, chauvinist? No, not at all by any sense. If you met my girlfriend she would tell you that she is basically in control of many things in out relationship. It's cool, she's smart and she is great with money. I leave most of the major decision making up to her. I trust her because she is my soul mate and best friend. We take each others advice to heart and she keeps me in line... She's tough.. Arrogant? Maybe? Jeez, did you forget? I'm a freakin' salesman! I have to be confident to be good at what I do. Sometimes confidence is mistaken for arrogance. BIG DIFFERENCE. I'm one of the top wholesale reps in my company on the west coast. I am paid to develop and maintain professional business relationship that profit the company. I do well in my profession... That's why I have so much time to type here. I make my own schedule. I have a company car and a expense account. No stinkin' office desk to imprison me.... Rude? No, no and no. I am one of the nicest people that you would ever meet. I am a loyal friend and I am trustworthy. I value friendships and dignity. My girlfriend is both a friend and a inspiration to me. I learn from her daily (except driving a car). I don't do waffles...If you've been good friends with me for years, you would probably like me because I stand for what I believe in. Like yourself. <_< I'm consistent... From my experiences, MOST women can't drive.
  5. I will say one more thing, you just said EXACTLY what I've been trying to say. My fiance isn't representative of the entire female gender as a whole, and niether are the women that you've met, you haven't met nearly enough to have a representative sample. You've never met the "majority of her gender" so your statement is meaningless, and your opinion is groundless. You can believe what you want to believe. So that makes your opinion valid and not mine? Remember, we're expressing opinions here. There's no need to be defensive. My personal experiences and a few others here state that MOST women cannot drive. Do I have bad luck that only women hit me or am I experiencing a fluke? I would assume that the law of averages would of at least reaped 1 male at fault accident in the 4 that I have been involved in if males caused the equal amount of accidents? I suppose I would have to personally be involved in millions of accidents to substantiate my assessment and satisfy you? I don't believe there is a publicly available database (a side from confidential commercial insurance claim records and police accident reports) that tracks this? If there was, I think one of us would of stumbled onto it over the past few days? But then again, if there was, I think that data would be attacked and slaughtered by an equal rights organization and considered "sexist"? Chew on that... Thank God that we live in America where we can intelligently express our opinions based on personal experiences and collaboration without being censored. Sometimes I feel those days are numbered? It's sad... Our local poll shows a few stats in this community... "Who Hit Your Car In The Past?"

  7. Let's clarify this again. I'm not saying ALL women can't drive. I'm saying from my experiences MOST women can't drive. I'm sure SW03ES's wife can drive better than most men? I don't know, I've never met her. But I know she doesn't account for the majority of her gender if she really is a good driver. Hence, MOST women can't drive. My girlfriend is a average driver at best. It seems like every time I talk to her on the phone while she's driving somebody just cut her off, somebody just about hit her, somebody just turned into her lane erratic, etc... She's so emotional when talking to me on the phone while driving it's crazy. It's too much, I don't think I want to talk to her while she's driving anymore? I don't want to her to get hurt. There is no possible way she could be in that many "possible accidents"? At least I don't think so? I know she drives a convertible sportscar that is very low to the ground but it is not invisible. I would say 50% of driving is being defensive by watching and anticipating cars around you. I am very defensive because I drive a motorcycle as well. I don't want to be clipped on the freeway and go sliding at 75mph on my !Removed!. I can't even count how many times a stupid minivan has tried to merge into me on the freeway. When I see a minivan (on my bike) I usually accelerate past it so it can't turn into me. BTW, she got hit about 2 months ago by her work at lunch. Who hit her? You guessed it, ANOTHER WOMAN! From my experiences MOST women can't drive...
  8. Maybe they're shallow enough to use a clay stick on? Do you mean like deep key scratches?
  9. _/\_ [|||] It looks something like that with the color orange.
  10. Oh, ok. I have some extra coolant in the garage. I'll do that. I guess that makes sense. It's probably the shape of a little radiator?
  11. Are you serious? There's a brake pad indicator light? Cool... I know my brake pads are getting low so that makes sense.
  12. Thanks Bryan and Shelly! You guys would love it... You can get them at> Discount Tire Direct Not that I'm advertising for them. That's the only place that I know of where you can get those.
  13. I saw a little orange light in my dash yesterday that looks like a air filter or something? It came on then went away when I was driving. Is there a warning light for a dirty air filter or something? It had the shape of like a little orange 2 gallon milk jug with vertical lines going thru it. Does anybody know what that warning light means? I know it lights up then goes away when starting the car like most lights in the dash.

  15. From my experiences, MOST women can't drive. :o
  16. Thanks BG! :D Yeah, I'm going to lower it in a month or so. I've spent enough money latley. I'm going to shop coilovers and springs for the next month. I think 1.5" may be the best drop? I want to find something that will not reduce the plush LS400 ride by too much. I'm willing to accept a little more stiffness but I don't want to have a bouncy car in any way. At least the drop will give me better handling. Can you recommend me anything?
  17. Nice...I have to do that too.... How long did it take you to drill the ball joints out of the original struts? So you put those ball joints in the opening of the Mighty Lift struts? I haven't studied the pictures on that site yet.
  18. If you've been in multiple accidents (like most people), please check the appropriate box that indicates the higher percentage. i.e. 3 male accidents + 2 female accidents = 1. A male caused an accident(s) that I was involved in. Check the 3rd choice only if you've had an equal amount of accidents between both genders. i.e. 2 male accidents + 2 female accidents = 3. Even (50%) - male and a female caused an accident(s) which I was involved in. *You are completely anonymous after voting. Of course this is a non scientific poll within this community. The results do not prove any debates either way due to lack of data. This is for entertainment purposes only. 19. Hehe...What are you eating for dinner? I'll see ya later. :P
  20. You've provided no real evidence that most drivers are men, read the article up on top, it states that in 1995 only 54% of driven miles were driven by men. I bet they're not taking into account the commercial delivery service industry that is mostly employed by men? These people drive daily as part of their job. So they drive more than any of us driving around in our Lexus. Plus they drive in their personal car (most likley) to and from work. I bet they're compiling these stats on the average commuter in a personally owned car. What do you think? Think of all the male taxi drivers in New York. Bus drivers, heavy truck operators, etc. It's freakin' hard to drive a huge delivery truck or a 18 wheeler. Wouldn't you say that's a little more difficult to navigate than a car? Yes, there are women that drive 18 wheelers but VERY FEW. We're talking about drive time actually on the road and/or miles traveled. Not the simple possession of a Driver's License. There is actually more women than men in the USA but men still have more issued driver's licenses and they drive more miles and more often on average. I went to that link before but it just sends me to the home page, not the article.
  21. No, I actually I disagree with you. There would probably be more like 40% - 45% less drivers (average accidents with a lower # of drivers (men only) vs a higher # of drivers (men & women) on the road) less (maybe more?) on the road since most of the drivers on our roads are men. If we took that percentage of drivers (women) off the road and replaced them with male drivers, you would end up with roughly 28% - 18% less accidents due the accident to driver ratio in respect to the male and female driver. I would say that data is a little bias but overall it paints the real picture.
  22. Women have 32% more crashes per million miles than men, 3.3 vs. 2.5. Fatal crash involvement of men decreased 20 percent while that for women increased 28 percent. Contrary to MADD's claims, police reports reveal that only five percent of crashes are "alcohol related" (Table No. 1041) Consistent with women drivers, women pilots have 4 times more crashes than men pilots. The differences between the sexes in hand/eye coordination are dramatic! There are 4,119,842 drivers in crashes each year. Probability of a single car crash with a man driver = X Probability of a two car crash between two men drivers = X2 Probability of a two car crash between a man driver and a woman driver = XY Probability of a single car crash with a woman driver = Y Probability of a single two car crash between two women drivers = Y2 Probability of a single car crash between a man and a woman driver = YX X + X2 + XY = 2.5 Y + Y2 + YX = 3.3 XY = 3.3 -Y -Y2 X = (3.3 -Y -Y2)/Y X = 10.89 -6.6Y -5.6Y +2Y +Y 2.5Y = 3.3Y - Y -Y +10.89 -6.6Y -5.6Y2 +2Y3 +Y4 +3.3Y2 -Y3 -Y4 5.8Y2 +3.3Y -10.89 = 0 Y = 1.115 Y = 1.24 YX = .882 X = .791 X = .626 XY = .882 If women drivers were outlawed and all current miles driven per year were driven by men, the fatal and injury accident rate would be X + X2 = .791 + .626 = 1.417 accidents per trillion miles, or 1,417 per billion miles. Current miles driven of 1,478 billion miles x 1,417 accidents per billion miles = 2,094,326 drivers in crashes This is 1,169,098 drivers in single car crashes and 925,228 in two driver crashes, which is a 49% reduction This would save $98.1 billion per year, or $1,000 per year per family.
  23. Ughhh, you're not going to like this. This was taken from the same site that you already linked to> http://christianparty.8m.com/womendrivers.htm Women Drivers Are a Male Health Risk In 1997 alone, 41,967 American citizens were killed in auto accidents, 28,538 of which were men. If only men were allowed to drive on our streets and highways, and if they drove all the miles currently driven by both men and women, there would be 49% fewer traffic accidents. This would save $98 billion and 20,563 lives each year, 13,983 of which are men. Men are just as likely to be killed by women drivers as to be murdered, commit suicide, or die from cirrhosis or AIDS. Being a woman increases the probability of injury or fatal accident by 41%. Drinking 1.9 ounces of alcohol per day reduces the probability of a man having an accident by 80%. Men have 42% more fatal or injury crashes, but drive 88% more miles, than women. Women have 32% more crashes per million miles than men, 3.3 vs. 2.5. The reduction of alcohol consumption caused by MADD causes an additional 30,000 men heart disease deaths each year. Per Traffic Safety Facts' "Vehicle Miles of Travel, 1975-1996" http://www-fars.nhtsa.dot.gov/www/cfm/libr...ants&recordid=0 Americans drove passenger cars 1,478 billion miles in 1995. Per the "Early Results Report" of the Nationwide Personal Transportation Survey http://www-cta.ornl.gov/npts/1995/Doc/index.shtml men drive 65% or 965 billion and women drive 513 billion of those miles. Per Traffic Safety Facts' "Drivers Involvement in Crashes" from the FARS data base http://www-fars.nhtsa.dot.gov/www/cfm/libr...vers&recordid=0 male drivers were involved in 2,418,799 fatal and injury crashes and female drivers were involved in 1,701,043. Per mile driven, women have one third more fatal or injury crashes than men, 3.3 vs. 2.5 per one million miles driven, and 17% more property damage only accidents, 5.86 vs. 5.02. Per the National Safety Council http://www.nsc.org/lrs/statinfo/af78.htm the economic cost of motor vehicle crashes in 1997 was $200.3 billion. Per the 1994 Statistical Abstract of the United States, Table 1023, police departments report that 5% of all traffic crashes are "alcohol-involved" Table No. 1041 If you were to believe all of the claims made by the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) Report DOT HS 808 770, you would believe that all kinds of new laws (DUI, Helmet, Safety) saved 19,534 lives. However, the actual decrease in the number of fatalities due to the decrease in the motor vehicle fatality rate was only 7,920, which is 11,614 fewer than all the claims. It is suspicious that NHTSA claims that the percent of alcohol-related fatalities decreased from 51% in 1987 to 30.3% in 1997, when such a decrease is almost equal to the actual total decrease in traffic fatalities. It is also contradictory to the Statistical Abstract which reports that police reports show that only 5% of all accidents are "alcohol involved". Traffic Fatalities NHTSA Claims Were Saved By New Laws Actual Lives Saved Due to Reduced Traffic Fatality Rate Lives Lost to Heart Disease Due To Reduced Alcohol Consumption Drinking & Driving Laws 7,452 7,920 29,887 Safety Belt Laws 10,750 Minimum Age Drinking Laws 846 Motorcycle Helmet Laws 486 Total 19,534
  24. http://www.aldoi.org/Prop_broch_auto_under.htm 3.) Gender and Age. Statistically, males still have more accidents than females. For that reason, young men may tend to pay more for insurance than young women. (A small number of states have prohibited insurers from using gender as a factor in underwriting.) Insurers also have statistics that show a higher number of claims for some age groups than for others. Ok, this is referring to young men (less than 25 years old) being in more accidents. That's why I had that caveat (as I suspected) in my previous post. It also says "A small number of states have prohibited insurers from using gender as a factor in underwriting.". That proves my point even more as this data is being compiled. Some states have seen that there is no stats to back up males paying higher premiums. Males may have been involved in more accidents but that's due to the pure higher number of men on the road opposed to women. I bet the averages would show that women are at least 2 to 1 more likely to be involved in a at fault accident opposed to a man. But there are less woman drivers on the road at all times. I strongly believe that. I agree that young men drive probably more wrecklessly than any group. I know because I drove kind of crazy in my younger years. But then again, I never caused a accident on the road. I did a stupid thing in the woods (rolled my 4X4) when I was younger. From my experiences, MOST women can't drive.
  25. Also ask your parents about the way the policy is written up. It could have your mother as a part time driver and your father as the primary driver on the policy.
