  1. Hi all, Just performed the 30,000 mile service on my 2009 GS350 AWD. All in all I changed the oil and oil filter, changed the cabin filter, the engine air filter, and changed the front brakes. Can anyone tell me when I should change the PCV valve and fuel filter? Does anyone know where I can find instructions on how to do this myself? I was able to do the above maintenance all on my own, and was really surprised with how easy it was (did it all in 1.5 hours, going really slowly on the brake job to ensure no mistakes). Are there any other items I have missed that will need servicing soon? Thanks, Chris
  2. Hey all, I've started doing my own oil changes on my '09 GS350AWD (just performed the 25k change, using Mobil 1 full synth and genuine Toyota filter). Here go the questions: 1. I usually drive at least ~500 miles per week, almost all highway (50 miles r/t each day to work, at least 200 miles on the weekend). Now that the engine is nice and broken in(25k) and now that I'm using M1 oil, can I push oil changes past the 5k intervals? I've been hearing many people stating 7.5k mile oil change intervals is adequate. I don't want to void the existing factory warranty. However, I also don't want to waste perfectly good motor oil. Can anyone advise? 2. I've been looking at the maintenance schedule in the owner's manuals, and most of the items included in the 20k, 25k, 30k, maintenance intervals seem like a bunch of bullsh!t: inspecting brakes, coolant, brake lines, lubing chassis points, blah blah blah.... Can anyone tell me if there's anything real to this stuff? Can I just lube these chassis points myself? Where are they located? Are there any services (aside from the oil/filter changes) that scream out for attention? Don't get me wrong; I have no problem paying for quality services; I'm not gonna buy an expensive car and then get cheap with repairs. At the same time, I'm not going to pay someone $300, $400+ to simply LOOK at things on my car when I can do that myself for free. 3 .Anyone have problems with the DRL's and foglights blowing prematurely? Any advice is appreciated. Chris
  3. Really? So then no power assist at all until the trunklid is closed all the way down? then what is the use of the black strap that connects the trunklid to the top of the inner trunk? I've seen that device in other cars, and it was always a power assist device. Hell, I could be wrong. Just seems strange, is all.
  4. Hey all, Noob back with a second question. For some reason the power trunklid pulldown feature does not work on my '09 GS350 (bought it about two months ago with 10k miles on it). I read in the manual that once the trunklid is lowered to about halfway down, a motor is supposed to activate that lowers it the rest of the way and closes it. The black strap connected to the trunklid seems fine and in working order. And when I gently close the trunk lid all the way down so that it makes contact with the metal mechanism, the motor kicks in and closes brings it in that final inch to close it securely. But, for some reason, that's the only time it works. Is this a feature that was turned off at the dealer with some of the other personalized options?
  5. Thanks for the replies, everyone, the info is much appreciated. Wow, wasnt even aware of the electric power steering steering...
  6. Hey all, Any help you can provide will be appreciated. Just a quick question about fluids for my recent purchase - '09 GS 350 AWD. Just got the oil changed today (15k service). Only went to the dealership because they threw in two free oil changes when I purchased (it's not a CPO). I'm almost certain the used regular old dino-juice, and not synthetic. I plan on doing my own oil changes in the future, but I keep hearing contradictory info about synth vs. dino. Can I change to synth motor oil in the future and NOT screw up engine seals, etc? Also, when should I change the brake/power steering/coolant/transmission/differential fluids (front and rear differentials, correct?)? 30k intervals? longer? Looked online at the service schedule Lexus provides, but they make no mention. Things were pretty easy in my previous car ('98 Accord V6), but I certainly dont want to screw up this one. Advice? Thanks in advance, NYChris
