  1. I checked all the hoses including the hose connecting to the canister all seems to be good. I even did a smoke test recently and the smoke was coming from the hose which is always open on the canister after the mechanic shut off the purge valve on the canister. I was told i need to replace the canister, but wanted a second opinion before i replace it to confirm that indeed the canister is the culprit for the P0440 code and nothing else. Thanks for the reply.
  2. Hi JPI, i think your post has been long back in 2004, but i dont know if you are still active on this site. I have the same problem, The CEL throws P0440 code, did a battery disconnect and then it comes back within 50 miles of driving, does not come if I drive on the highway for about 350 miles 2 way on the same day. replaced the fuel cap, did a smoke test on the evap test port towards the hose lines to the intake, no leak, did a smoke test from the air filter back to the canister. The dealer shut off the purge valve with his machine connected to the scan port and the smoke was coming from the charcoal canister hose pointing dowward, which is not connected to any other end. Based on this I was told that the charcaol canister is bad and need to be replaced.; it is costing $545. I just want to be sure that the test conducted is correct and the dealer has truly done a root cause diagnostic. Appreciate your help. Thanks Matt
  3. Hi Paulenka 1. I have been chasing the P0440 problem with so many changes and could not determine the root cause of it. This code eventually kicked off after Firestonre replace the air filter. I replaced the gas cap and still nothing and i am not getting the swoosh sound when i open the gas cap to fuel gas. I dont know what else to check. Pls help driving me crazy. I also checked the hose from the air filter going to the canister, looks good too. I replaced the o2 sensor on B1S1. Where is the purge valve located and can i replace it or test it to confirm if it is malfunctioning. Thanks
  4. who can fix the clog, is it only the dealer or some other shops ?
  5. What did you do to fix it, as i think i may have the same problem on my 2000 Lexus RX300 on the highway, when i look at the flex pipe i can see some type of smoke coming out while in idle position, i am planning to change the flex pipe by ordering one, but have no idea about the catalytic converter. Pls help
  6. Hi GoldenStateSilverSport, It is one of the best articles i have read and very detailed with the clear images. Hats off to you. I did not see this article earlier, but I just worked on my 2009 Lexus Rx300 with only 98K miles on it. I had to take the air filter box out, throttle body, intake manifold to remove the rear Valve Cover so i could change the spark plugs, VCG and the PCV replacement, I cleaned the throttle body with a towel to remove grease out but did not do the steps you just showed as I am totally a newbie. but now i think i will take the throttle out again and clean all the parts with the carb cleaner and see if that helps. I have a question. When i drive on the highway at 65 miles and over i feel the car is not smooth and needs more gas to get it running, the moment i take the feet off the accelarator, it slows down, did not have this issue before i took the manifold out or the throttle body out, am i missing something out here. it drives ok when i am below 40. Idling in Park is at around 800 RPM, but if i drive and stop at the stop light, it misfires. there is no CEL whatsoever to figure out if i have a bad ignition coil. Like i said i changed all 6 plugs with NGK Iradium. but when in drive mode and at a Traffic Light the RPM goes down to 400-500RPM and then i can see some vibration on my steering or something like misfire. Any help from anyone to bring this car to its original state will be appreciated. my email is mathewd23@yahoo.com Thanks Matt
  7. Hi guys, I just replaced all my 6 spark plugs on 2000 Leuxs Rx300 which has 98K miles with NGK Iradium, and i had a P0302 code on the scanner. I reseted it, and never saw the CEL come again, but when i am driving especially on highway at 65 miles/hr It has a rough driving, why is that, Does that mean that due to a bad ignition coil, i could have that problem. Also if the car is in park or neutral. I dont feel the misfire, but if i stop at a light. I can feel the misfire. Any help will be appreciated.
  8. I purchased this SUV Lexus RX300 4WD in Mid 2000 when it was a new line of SUV and thinking that this was the original buidl from Japan, and at 65K miles, i started noticing problems since January 2009, 1. O2 Sensor goes bad at 65,000 Miles 2. Rear Main Seal Leak at 66,000 Miles 3. Bad Knock Sensor on Bank 1 at about 85,000 Miles 4. Engine shoots upto between 4000 to 5000 RPM while driving at 65MPH. Replaced the O2 sensor, replaced the Main Seal. I had Honda and currently have other Honda Vehicles and till 90,000 miles did not see any issues with the engine or transmission. This is ridiculous and now i think if i have to decide between Toyota/Lexus. I would prefer Honda/Accura.
