  1. I have a 460 LS - purchased in California in July 08. The service manager at dealer in Calgary seems surprised that I don't like the headlights, but he hasn't had time to clearly see the lights (!) my problem sounds like yours, that is; a dark band between low and high beam and the high beams are aimed so high they are useless. I will have another discussion with dealer next week and hopefully he will treat me with respect and actually see the headlight pattern rather than dismissing it or claiming that if there is a problem, it is due to poor dealer preparation and therefore not a warranty item. I'll take some photos tonite and post them. I don't know what happened to my other posts on this forum.... so Lexus Canada say (by email) they agree with my assessment and the dealer's assessment that there is a gap in light between the low and the high. I asked if they had a fix for this problem and they have not replied. (3 months). I guess I'll drive a different car at night in the country. Don't give up yet, Maybe if the headlight's were moved up a bit this would solve your problem. I will take a look and see how hard it is to adjust and then post how here.
  2. The gas pedal problems has to do with a company called CTS in the U.S.A, a nylon piece would swell and cause a sticking gas pedal. Now I read this, "According to Lyons, 1995-2004 Tacoma pickups and 2000-01 Tundras shared the same frame supplier: Toledo, Ohio-based Dana Holding Corporation. In investigating the Tacoma’s rust complaints, Toyota discovered that Dana hadn’t properly prepped Tacoma frames to resist corrosion before they were shipped to Toyota’s NUMMI manufacturing plant, where the Tacoma is assembled. “Because of the Tacoma, we are taking a look at other vehicles of similar make and production elements. This includes the Tundra,” Lyons said. “[Dana] used the same rust treatment [for the Tacoma and Tundra] during manufacturing.” http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2009/04/toyota-investigating-tundra-pickups-with-rusty-frames.html This is bad, as these trucks are basically junk now. Along with the previous Tundra ball joints and a few camshafts it's seems to be a good old all that matters the money USA problem.
  3. This should keep you busy reading for awhile http://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-second-generation/289839-door-lock-acutuators-diy-13.html
  4. Should state miles on car but the rule of thumb, with car on ground bottom cover off reach and put your hand around every moving joint you can safely grab while someone rocks the steering wheel back a forth. anything that has play in it replace. Next jack it up using a crow bar pry on everything you can get to. Any play replace. Lower ball joints replace by 150K to be safe. Good Luck
  5. Your O2's must be slow by now Cats clogging? Time to check more than plugs and wires.
  6. As a note you might want to replace the fluid with Mobil 1 trans dex. It seems to stay red and not go dark with this fluid in. http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/MotorOil/Other_Products/Mobil_1_Synthetic_ATF.aspx
  7. That's all that was on the lot that day. I will check in a week or so to see if I can get better shots.
  8. Bogarting into someone else's thread LOL
  9. Yes the Ebay rebuilt pumps have been known to have the seal blow again and dump on the alternator. Do yourself a favor and buy the Lex pump ask for a 20% discount for internet sales. these fine folks will give it to you. http://www.lexusofbrookfield.com/
  10. OK here is the specs off the beast. Some pro's and con's. Feel free to add you input, nothing like a good debate.
  11. Speaking of factory videos, here's a great video done on Discovery HD's Megaworld Germany Thanks for the video, I have seen it. I am sure it impresses the non technical but is laughable to those that know better. Spend some time here http://forums.vwvortex.com/zeroforum?id=112 and get a real feel for the German quality. Stay tuned and read my up coming review of the 7 series..Not for the emotional enthusiast.
  12. Huh? How does one "mask a vibration problem"? By tighting up the suspension you could mask vibrations. Rule #1 get the wheels and tires right first when fighting vibrations.
  13. One of my interests is test driving cars, I drove the Genesis when it first came out, I was amazed at its lack of NVH. How it's made is something to be explored. It's does not give you the refinement of a Lexus LS but sure beats the ES.
  14. You reminded me I have to test drive one of these..Thanks
  15. If you have 90 to 100K on your car the compressor is shot as in worn. You can put the mixed R12 in and hope for the best but it won't last long. These units are sensitive to the amount of freon you put in you should weigh it with a scale and vac the system and replace the dryer and high pressure hose, very few DIYers do it right so it doesn't last. You can use the sight glass to get you close, Google how to charge using the sight glass method.Lexus dealers used to get about 2500.00 to renew the Air con. The fittings are different for 134 so that is a problem. Good Luck
  16. You will be sorry if you get silicone grease on your windows, I would keep it off seals and window slides it also attracts dust and dirt. One place it works good in on the door detents. Just a lite layer top and bottom makes a difference. I also use 303 on my tires.
  17. Most agree the LS 460's competition is the BMW 7 series the Audi A8 Mercedes S series, please add or subtract the ones I missed. The world is a different place now, thats not the only competition for these cars. Lots of people are scaling back into smaller less expensive cars. You lost me here this is a LS forum so I don't know what smaller cars have to do with it.. Why were you surprised he said that? If I was on a video and representing Lamborghini I would talk about performance, quality things like that. Its not so much the parts as it is the attitude of the company that is the issue here. No shame...no pride...thats the cultural shift I was talking about. Japanese no shame no pride? This is the whole of my argument they are with other Asian manufacture's seem to be the last ones with pride. Why would the euro flagships be built in Japan? I don't understand your point. The euro flagships are of course...built in Europe. My poor grammar, one thing don't know is spelling and grammar. The flagship of the Japanese would never have there engines made in Africa, buy their electronics from multiple manufacture that repeatedly have caused them problems in the past. If you are thinking of buying a Mercedes or BWM or Audi the first thing they will tell you on the forums is buy a extended service contract or sell it before the warranty is up.You really don't hear that on the LS forums. I could go on and on about things like cylinder inserts in the 460 engine vs the plasma cylinder coatings on the euro cars, which I believe will be biting them in the butt. But I would have to stat posting diagrams and long explanations that would bore the non technical. I will just leave it at if you or anyone can provide information that the competition has a better made better production automobile, methods or technical advances I for one would like to be educated. The reason is that American consumers did not accept a Volkswagen at that price point. It has nothing to do with the car itself. People didn't want to spend $75,000 for a car and then service it next to a Jetta. The car itself is a lot of car for the money. Hyundai is having the same issue with the Genesis, its an incredible car for the money but people would rather buy slightly less car and get the brand cache and service support that comes with a luxury car. If you drive say a Hyundai Genesis 4.6 and a Lexus ES350. The ES350 is more money optioned similarly...and much less car...but they sell WAY more ES350s. The ES is a long way from the flagship so I have no comet on this. This and the fact they had a lot of electrical problems didn't help.http://www.autoblog.com/2008/02/04/volkswagen-phaeton-coming-i-back-i-to-america/ They are hugely proud of that plant and they designed it as a showcase for their construction and design process. Meaning...someone other than Lexus takes pride in how they build cars. They are showing only part of the assembly process the good stuff you will never see. Corvette does this, I think they call this Marketing.. Well then maybe we'll leave the dissertation on Asian business practices to me...and the tutorial on replacing timing belts to you...hate to sound mean but you come in here acting like you're the only one who knows what he is talking about...and I think we've demonstrated thats not true. Doesn't sound mean at all. I am the owner of my own Engineering company and basically at this point don't do much it runs itself so no jealousy here. I am free 24/7. You then should understand Marketing and selling humans automobiles using emotions instead of their head more than the average bear. We have to end this I don't like arguing with mods. If I sound like I am a know it all I just know what I know and if I don't know it I shut up and say nothing. You ask me to respond to my posts so I did. I will be less of a know it all in the future. Good Luck to you..
  18. Pinch off the vacuum lines going to the power steering pump, your idle control valve on the pump might be starting to leak.Than look at all vacuum lines and fittings for leakage.
  19. If it is used you need to remove the old tape and put new on. I have used tape from the local hobby shop, the RC guys use it to mount the parts to the cars. RC = remote control..
  20. Strut bar not Struts.Big bar with big rubber support in the front attached. LS doesn't have Struts is has Shocks. Cheap suspensions have Struts. As in MacPherson strut. They should be replace by 80K they all go by then. Lower ball joints should be replaced around 100K. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MacPherson_strut Oddly BMW uses MacPherson struts, but not on the 7 series. If you replace the bars and your vibration goes away you just masked the vibration problem you need to get the wheels and tires right first.
  21. You are right, I know this is a LS forum and I am not interested other models in only flagships 7, S,A8,. This the competition. I just finished the video on Lambo's that why I bought it up. I thought it was interesting when the CEO of Lamborghini stated that his company is not into volume but profit and selling emotion. I was surprised he said that. Toyota has quality problems and yes they have to be competitive to survive, oddly the problems seemed to be with the parts that are made other than Japan. The elephant in the room maybe parts made in the USA or Canada.Gas pedal maker CTS, Tundra camshafts and front ball joints. The point is if you look at the competition euro flagships the LS is one of the last made in Japan that has not been *BLEEP*ized by a mix of everyones parts. There is reason the Phaeton is not in U.S.A. "The plant where VW builds the Phaeton is all glass so you can see every facet of the vehicle being built." I am not sure what this means but I would like to go see it. I have a degree is intercultural communication & business." I don't but see attached picture I have a minor in Lexus LS.
