  1. Ed,

Thanks for the input. My latest visit resulted in replacemant of all 4 tires. Still the Bridgestones. It definetely helped - got rid of 90% of the problem. It turns out that each of the tires was more than 14 pounds (not sure of the termonology, but I'm thinking foot-pounds or some out-of-round centrifugal force measured in pounds)out-of tolerance. One was upwards of 27 pounds according to the maint report. Why did it take them 5 visits to find it? One can only speculate.

So I think I'm in my tolernace zone, but still, for 72k I was expecting a smooth as glass ride. That's not the case, but we're doing much much better.

I suspect there may be one or more wheels/rims that is pushing the upper limit on out of round tolerence.

    Good to

  2. Recived a call from Lexus service today. Im being told that the local engineer told them this is a normal noise for this car.

I can pick it up tomorrow even though the service depatment feels this is not rightand gave be the number for Lexus which is the same numer I called weekes ago and still havnt recieved a reply. I have ran out of places to find help. I just tryed 7 on your side. See below

Please Help! My 2007 Lexus developed a bang noise when applying brakes in traffic or parking. Was brought to dealer, on about 6/17/2010. Problem has been confirmed by dealer and parts replaced on 3 different occasions. (See attached service history) I have been told problem was corrected from service one to service 3. Which involved me leaving car for multiples days for the last two months?

I have called Lexus cooperate and was told someone would get back to me and as of today nothing.

I have just received a call from service manager telling me I can pick up my car tomorrow 8/7/2010 and that they were told by the local Lexus engineer that this banging was normal for this car. I was also informed that the service center disagrees and gave me a number to call which is (800) 255-3987 which is who I have been waiting for a call back for weeks. I feel this car is not safe to drive and feel Lexus is ducking their responsibility at the cooperate level.

I have never asked for anything except for my car to be fixed. I hope you can help me on this I’m sure just a phone call to them would get the ball rolling towards the correct fix to the brakes banging.

The car is still under factory warranty.

    Thank You

    Robert Ure

I wouldn't lose sleep over it seems that the car is safe. Banging noise to you may be a popping noise to others. If it is something worth solving give it time it should get worse or maybe go away.

  3. I am on my third ls 460, the lastest a 2010 rwd. My first 2008 ls was delivered with a vibration. After numerous test drives and being sent home from the dealer 3 times with them telling me that they had fixed it they finally determined that the transmission was defective from the factory. This took about 6 weeks of lost time waiting on a Lexus tech rep, on a brand new car, and a cancellation of a winter Arizona vacation. After going to the mat with Lexus factory I was given a new car about 10 weeks later. My second 2008 ls had an intermittent vibration that would usually show itself on very good smooth roads. After numerous test drives and load force balance and a replacement of the Bridgestone tires it was determined to be a bracket that holds the nav antenna to the top of the car. To fix it they wanted to completely remove the headliner and seats and stiffen up the bracket. The car had the clicking engine noise that I was told numerous times was normal [now its revealed that all along the factory knew that it was bad valve springs]. It also had bad air noise around the front doors that I was told was unfixable, at times it sounded like the windows were down. So, after about 15 months-13,000 miles I traded it back to the dealer for a 2010 so that I just did not have to deal with it any longer. One might wonder why I would give them another try after such dismay on a 75,000.00 car and I a guess that it boiled down to liking the general manager at the Lexus dealer who stood behind me on the fight with the factory to get the first car replaced. The Lexus Customer Service people are really arrogant, rude, and disrespectful to the degree that it is almost comical. The feeling that I got was "this is what we will do-take it or leave it. I was actually told by a lady in customer service "Calif. office-her name was Marilyn" that I was not being truthful and she did everything but use the word "liar". They told me that I would qualify for a customer loyalty reward of about $1000.00 on the 3rd car, but Marilyn said "NO" and I received nothing. It is now becoming apparent with Toyota/Lexus that they will do what ever with their customers. The disrespect that customer service shows their customers will eventually ruin the brand even though they do have some good cars. So far the 2010 is good with only a little driver window air noise, a high pitch whistle, that I can live with. Good luck if you have to deal with Factory Customer Service.

Interesting I would sure like to hear the other side of this story. This is not normal for Lexus CS. Still no help for the OP.

  4. So, I just bought a 2007 CPO LS 460. Love the car, except for the nav system.

I'm disappointed that I don't get many street name announcements in my area. It will give me the highway names, but no street names. Of course the map shows the right route with correct street names, but the voice never announces them.

The Lexus navigation site says this:

"Non-detailed Area Coverage = turn-by-turn guidance may not (cannot) be provided on all roads. Major highways and streets are generally covered but residential network accuracy has not been confirmed."

What does that mean??? My $200 Tom Tom doesn't have problems doing turn by turn voice and announces residential street names. I don't get why Lexus won't do this. Anyone know more about this than I do?

It's the pursuit of perfection not we are perfect. BTW Denso is the main electronics manufacture for Lexus, if it were Siemens or Bosch you might have real problems to complain about.

  5. Did a test drive today, nice car just as fast as the 460 with the turbo V6 (300hp) I would think the V8 would be faster. Rides a little stiffer on bumps(ultimate driving machine) flatter on turns, more noise, wind, tire, outside. Not bad though, the biggest thing is that it really felt like a step down, the 7 is really the competition to the 460.

  6. I bought a 2010 LS 460 AWD in April 2010. I've been back to the dealer 4 times for tire balancing since I detect a vibration. They applied "Road Force" balance to the tires which seemed to help a little but an annoying vibration, most evidnet at 70-75 MPH persists but I can feel it at other speeds too. The car 4800 miles.

A bottle of water will reveal the vibration while driving on a smooth road. Also, the headrest will transfer the vibration to my hand if I place the back of my hand against the passenger's headrest while driving. I'm begining to think this a chracteristic of the car since I am reading similar stories from others. I thought for $72K I would not be experiencing that kind of thing but go figure. I'm still considering my options. Has anyone experienced this with the LS 460? Any resovled cases?

Couple of things first, are your wheels and tires stock?

    I

  7. OK so I'm just off the boat as they used to say but service every 5K miles!! You couldn't sell a car in Europe with a service interval of at least 12K. So what's wrong with the oils here in USA. Nothing from what I can gather, they are the same synthetic oils used all over the world (except Pennzoil, I had never seen that name till I came here). Lexus UK has a service interval of 12k miles. Surely with modern sythetic oils & the claims of the oil companies this is a little garage money spinner.

Does everyone actually do the oil change every 5k? It's not the cost it's the inconvenience to always find a dealer who even at the best takes an hour.

Good point. We are encouraged to change our oil every 3-6 months, regardless of mileage, which I feel is ridiculous. What's the difference between oil sitting in a can on a shelf, and oil sitting in the crankcase in your garage?

I change oil based on mileage only....usually every 5000 miles or so.

The difference between oil in a can and oil in your crankcase is that there is no water in the oil in the can. Internal combustion produces carbon monoxide and water; you may even see some water coming out of your tailpipe. That water can get into your crankcase, and if it sits there long enough, produces hydrochloric acid that can corrode internal engine parts. Highway driving for 30 minutes or so usually eliminates any residual water in the crankcase. Short trips without the engine getting fully warmed up and running for less than 30 minutes are problematic. I get my LS460's oil and filter changed every 5,000 miles at my Toyota dealer with a coupon for $17.95. They use the same genuine Toyota filter and oil that my Lexus dealer uses in their $47.95 oil change. The only difference is the coffee in their lounge and the men's room decor. See this link: http://www.canadiandriver.com/2002/04/03/auto-tech-short-trip-driving.htm

At that price it cannot be synthetic oil.Factory requires synthetic at 5K period. If you want to sell your car in a ad I would want to see the records for your oil changes.

  8. Thats a great deal!

Make sure its not a salvage...and make sure it hasn't been bought back by Lexus for wind noise...that sounds too good to be true.

I have been checking it all out. And researching online, proces in North Carolina seem to be falling for hte 07 models...or dealers are just ready to move the used ones. I have not purchased yet....but working dealer to $32 out the door incld tax, fees, etc...he is about ready to give in...thanks!

Sounds like it doesn't have Nav package.

  9. I'd think if you have the car serviced at any shop other than the Lexus dealer, prices would be the same. An extra qt of oil doesn't account for THAT much of an increase in price...

Seems to me the LS holds over 9 quarts of dino juice.

Also it has a cannister-type filter, probably takes longer to swap out than the spin-on type most other cars have.

    Whit

20 minutes with a set of ramps. Quicker than going to the dealer.

  10. I have a 2007 LS460L and it's giving a warning to change the Airconditioning Air filter. I have ordered one online and wanted to know how to change it. Did not find any reference in the manual

Instructions are in section 4-3, Do-it-yourself maintenance, of the 07 LS460 owners manual starting on page 525. I just looked at the instructions in the Owners section of the Lexus corporate website. Instructions for changing the optional rear A/C filter follow the instructions for the front filter.

It is not necessary to register on the Lexus website to view and search owners manuals.

    Make sure ng it out.
