  1. If any rims are bent, they should be able to see that while spinning them on the balance machine. If balance is ok, then I'd check to see if any wheel/tire assembly is out of round. A good tire shop should be able to do this. Another check would be to rotate the tires to different locations and see if the vibration moves around. One other item that could cause vibration is if the drive shaft is out of balance. Most high speed rated tires have a folded layer of nylon which will flat spot a little when the car sits and you can feel that when first driving, but that should go away after a few miles of driving. This would be an entirely separate issue from the continued vibration. hey, thanks for the reply, i pretty much think i know what should be done. the drive shaft doesnt get out of balance unless the car was wrecked, right? and it hasnt been wrecked. im thinking about getting another rim, and put it in the rear. b/c the steering wheel doesnt hardly vibrate, but the floorboard does quite often. would that mean that the vibration is from the rear? hope to get a good answer, thanks again.
  2. i have a 2001 is300 and for the past 6 months or so i have been experiencing vibration problems w/ my steering wheel and floorboard when i get to about 40-65mph. at first, i was told to get my tires balanced, i did that, numerous times...didnt help me much. then i was told that maybe a new driver side tire would help stop the vibration, got one, didnt help. i talked to someone else about it, he told me to get new rims. the puppies cost $500 apiece, so i finally got one at a decent price and put it on the front driver side tire. the vibration in my steering wheel is a little better, but still remains and the floorboard is still vibrating at the above mph listing. do i need to get another rim for the back? the other 3 rims to be replaced? or is something else maybe wrong? it's just an awkward drive. at times it doesnt do it, but 90% of the time, especially right after i get in the car while it's been sitting awhile, it kicks in...so annoying, please help! thanks guys. jack
  3. It probably depends on how generous/honest Tirerack is and their relationship with Dunlop, but there should be a maximum radial runout spec. and if your tire is outside that spec, they should replace it. ← hey, thanks for the reply...ill have to dig out the invoice and perhaps e-mail tirerack...these tires are really new, nothing like that should happen so soon...dont you think? i hope they can replace it.
  4. hey, i appreciate the help...i might try to do it this weekend...have you ever heard of anything happening like that before in an is300?
  5. hey everyone...i have a 2001 is300 and for the past 6 months or so, i have been getting squeaking noises from the cd player area, on the side bars...it seems like only when it's warm and the sun is glaring on the car, or when i hit a bump, do i hear the noise...it's a crackling sound that i somewhat know what to do about, but dont feel like paying the $160+ for it. i dont really know the best way to take the whole dashboard area apart, or even if i should...what do you all recommend? thanks.
  6. hey everyone...i bought 2 sets of 2 dunlop sp sport 9000 tires from tirerack.com this year and have been getting a vibration from both the steering wheel and floorboard from 40-60mph on a consistent basis. i have done just about everything to get rid of the annoying vibration. i have had the tires balanced numerous times, rotated, aligned, etc. i have gotten from two people that the tires are not at the best "round" so to speak...i know that no tires are perfect, even from the start. they said that one of the tires has a radial run out...that is more than likely causing the vibration. i would hate to have to buy another tire and the same thing happen. the question i really have is if anyone else has had this problem w/ these tires and how to deal with it as well as with the warranty...can i get a new tire out of the deal or not? thanks a lot.
  7. my car has been through hell and back, it seems...i got 4 new tires on it, every thing was fine, and the steering wheel started to shake...so, i asked around and everyone told me to get my wheels balanced...so, i did...thought it would be the solution and it ended up not being it...so, i finally went to goodyear after going to s&s tire and ntb...the guy told me the other mechanics didnt balance them right and he said that the problem was coming from the rims and that they should probably be replaced...he didnt say anything about them being bent, but he put the rim and the tire on the rotating machine and placed a pen on the rim to show that the pen was bouncing off and not stabilized...im just really confused...just want to know what i should do to get this problem solved...this as well as my car seems to be sluggish at times, i dont know if it's b/c i need an oil change soon, i might be past due...if that would change much of the performance on the car. id appreciate any help. thanks.
  8. all right, thanks for the advice. do you have any pics of your lexus?
  9. also, about my car, sometimes when i brake, especially when i get in the car and the first time i do brake, i hear a clicking noise. what could that be? that and on the mounts of my cd changer, especially when it's hot and i hit a bump, or i push against the mounts, it clicks...sometimes it doesnt do it at all, but other times, it's very annoying and i can hear it over the music im playing at the moment. what could that be? thanks again.
  10. if it's the rotors, why does the car run so smooth when i brake while im driving 80mph or so? thanks.
  11. i recently bought a 2001 lexus is300 back in march. it had 41,000 miles on it and now has over 47,000. so, it's about to be out of warranty. well, i love the car, but it's making me crazy b/c the steering wheel seems to like to vibrate quite a bit when i brake anywhere between 40-60 miles an hour. but, when i drive around 80, and brake, it's really smooth and does not vibrate at all. i went to the tire store to get them balanced and it pretty much fixed the vibration i was getting when i was driving and not braking. also, when i brake, the tires seem to wobble a little before i come to a stop. what can i do to fix this? alignment, new tires, a steering rack, or what?
