  1. don't laugh but I have the same car and my cd player did not work until I realized I had the cd's in upside down. Now it works like a charm.. lol
  2. Thanks for the attachments. I would not attempt this DIY. After reading and seeing what you had to do, I'll pass. If it was a neutral start issue, why after several attempts (without moving shift lever) would it then engage? Hell of a place for a starter to be located!
  3. If you do not hear any "click" whatsoever, then it is likely your ignition switch that is getting worn. Usually, if the starter is bad, you will get a single, rather distinctive "click" when you turn the key to the start position. The starter is located under the intake manifold and is fairly difficult to access. Not your "typical" starter replacement and takes about 8 hours for someone who is reasonably seasoned at DIY. First, eliminate all of the possibilities before going after the starter itself. Be very astute and careful in your observations and you should be able to nail this one down thus saving yourself a bunch of guesswork. Ok, when it happens again I'll see if I hear a click. I guess I can only wish it is the ignition switch. lol
  4. thanks for the quick response. I will have to wait until it happens again to hear if starter motor turns.
  5. My starter will engage nicely for a few weeks then it will do nothing, no click, no noise, nothing. If I try to start it for several tries, the starter will engage and I'm good for a few more weeks. My friend said I may be hitting a flat or "dead spot" on the starter. I am assuming that I may need a new starter or could it be a selnoid? Where is the starter located on a 2000 ls400? Is changing the starter easy for DIY? Thanks in advance
  6. My 2000 ls 400 with 131,000 miles got 27mpg on a trip from Florida to New Jersey this summer. That was with luggage and 3 people on board. This car rides like a new car!! Love it.
  7. The woodgrain on my gearshift knob has a large piece that has chipped off. I searched ebay and found some knobs for 2001 430 ls models. My year is 2000 ls 400 and was wondering if they are interchangeable? If not what years would be. Thanks in advance
  8. The drivers side door panel has become worn and discolored because my knee rests against it when I drive. It needs to be dyed back to original color. A new door panel is about $800.00. The car is a 2000 ls 400 with tan interior. Any suggestions?
  9. I think I have the same type of noise in my 2000 ls 400. I changed the struts and caps ($600.00) and noise is still there. It only makes this noise going over bumps and especially if wheels are turned. I had front end checked and everything is tight. Very puzzeling! If you find out anything please let me know. I will do the same. Thanks
  10. thanks for the suggestion. Checked it out and it seems to be secure.
  11. I have a 2000 ls 400 with 120,000 miles on it. I have a thumping noise that sounds like it is coming from under the driver dash or bottom of firewall floor. It only occurs when I drive over bumps and the wheels are turned. Even riding over my lawn will cause it. I took it to a shop and replaced the struts and caps but to my displeasure the noise is still there. $600.00 out the window. Anyone else have this problem?
