  1. 20 dollars on the serpintine belt, cheap fix too...
  2. I have a 91 ls400 with 178k miles on it. I have owned since 67k. I travel for aliving and have owned about any car under the sun. The Lexus us safer, more powerful, and less problematic than any car I have ever owned. I plan on keeping until 275-300k. Watch out for the power steering assembly, brake rotors, and lcd wash out.
  3. I have a 91' 400 and at 100k and 11 years of use my ps assembly died. Be sure to OEM Lexus, not a NAPA Reproduction of somesorts. Also, be sure to have the tech clean out all 3 screens, there is one screen that is harder to get to and is usually not seen in the diagram.
  4. Wow, all that from a piece of plastic! I took mine off 60k miles ago and have not seen any decrease in mpg or increase in engine temp. Just my .02 cents
  5. I currently own a LS400 with 170k, and it runs like a top. I have absolutely loved owning this car, but I am looking to change to something a bit sportier. Are there any reliabilty issues going from my LS to a GS? Do they require more maintenence, are they more expensive to0 work on? I am looking for a work horse that I can take to 200k or more.
  6. I have owned my ls400 since 67k, and it know has 170k. This same problem started with my car around 80k miles. I have done nothing to fix it, and everything runs fine. Just keep the fluids changes and run it til it drops!
  7. I was once told by a Lexus mechanic the 2 years for the most reliable Lexus LS400 is 91 and 93. I have a 91 and it's great, 170k and no problems other than replacing power steering assembly and radiator. I do beleive the 93's have a better brake system and wider tires!
  8. Here's another thought. I had the same problem and both the belt and tensioner replaced at 100k. The problem came out to be the front power sterring assembly.
  9. I tell you what, BMW last, never thought I would see the day.
  10. An 83 W124 chassis with only 84k??? Wow, was it in great shape? The 300's ran for ever and ever, I test drove pne that had 384k on the clock and the original tranny, turbo, and motor and the thing ran like a top!!!
  11. Those ole 81-85 5cylinders are about bullet proof. Let me kow when you find one, I still love hearing those things fire up on a cold morning!
  12. 90ls400lexus If you are looking at the 1992 and up mercedes diesel W140 chassis 300sd I would strongly suggest to run like the plague. Those 300sd's are miserable rod benders. You can go to any mercedes chat forum and 99% of all members will tell you to do the same.
  13. This isy first post here and just wanted to describe my experiences with my 1991 ls400. What a great car!!! I purchased 3 years ago with 67k original miles from the original owner. I know have 170k on it. So far the only item outside of regular maintenence that I have done is replace the front power steering assembly and the radiator. Other than that the car still has the original spark plugs, valve gaskets. I have 0 leaks and I run this car 70mph 100-500 miles every day!!! I use to be a MB diesel fan getting great use out of them. But their were problems, constant vacuum problems, turbo lag, cold starting issues, electronic problems. What I have found with the Lexus is a car that is smoother, LESS TRIPS TO DEALER, more power, and less money out of pocket for repairs. I have been using Mobil 1 since 90k, and was wondering what some of you are seeing in mileage, anyone over 300k with original motor and tranny? Has anyone switched to synthetic tranny fluid, if so any differences, and what brand and viscosity? Thanks -A
