  1. There's a tutorial here. Not sure if it's the same for a '92, but it helped me out a lot.
  2. Just letting you know that after 10+ years a lot of things start to wear out or need to be replaced. You will be spending money for repairs.. depending on how well the previous owner maintained the ES. I have a 1993 ES300 for my first car, and I honestly wouldn't have it any other way. Just be prepared for the repairs.
  3. Thanks for explaining it all, but I think I'll just leave it where it is. I'll just cross my fingers that nothing will happen. Can't believe I managed to take this 15 minute job and stretch it to a few hours. At least I know how to do it now Thanks again!
  4. I'm not sure how serious this is, but while removing the PCV valve, half of it broke off, and half of it was stuck. While removing the other half, part of the valve grommet dropped inside...... :o I'm not sure what this will do to my car.
  5. I see the white plug in your picture (thanks, btw) but I can't seem to find the same on mine.. Here's a picture of what I'm looking at: Just a tad dirty.. Sorry if I'm making this more complicated than it should be. edit: Ahh the thing was hidden by poor lighting (Oops!). But you're very right, this thing is so stubborn! I've been going at it for a good 10 minutes and it wont budge. Any tips besides a good pair of pliers?
  6. Thanks for the suggestion! I've tried searching on the forum for this, and it may seem like a stupid question , but how do I replace a PVC valve? I have a pretty good idea on what to do by looking at this tutorial, but where exactly is it on an ES?
  7. I have a similar problem that I'm dealing with right now. Every morning when I'm starting up my 93 ES for work, I can see a plume of blue/black smoke in my rear view mirror. I'm pretty sure it's related to my mileage also being down the drain. Currently getting it looked at though..
  8. Wow, never knew that could happen. I took it the first thing in the morning, and the drive wasn't too long. It may very well be the problem.. but I'm a bit hesitant to take it back for another $40 retest though. I originally attributed the cause for the failed emission test to the old age my car (12 years). I've been needing to repair or replace various parts lately, so this wasn't too much of a shocker.. I'm not familiar with a MotorVac, but I'm guessing it's equipment that I can use to test the emissions at home? Just wondering where I could maybe rent one of these machines.. Autozone, Pep Boys, Home Depot? Thanks again~
  9. I wasn't present while the test was being done, so I'm not sure which was performed first. Just wondering, how would the order of the tests alter the results? I had no idea there was a problem with my ES. I always address problems when a light on the dash comes on. Needless to say, the check engine light has not been lit. I was suspecting the catalytic converter and will definetly have that checked out. I really appreciate the tips. Thanks!
  10. I had the yearly safety inspection done on my 1993 ES300 this morning. My car didn't pass because it failed in two sections of the emissions test. Here are the results: High Speed Emission Results (25mph) RPM: 1588 Pollutant / Standard / Current Reading / Result HC (PPM) - 114 - 75 - PASS CO (%) - 0.63 - 0.10 - PASS NOx (ppm) - 796 - 284 - PASS DILUTION (%) - >6 - 15.3 Low Speed Emission Results (15mph) RPM: 1563 Pollutant / Standard / Current Reading / Result HC (PPM) - 117 - 189 - FAIL CO (%) - 0.65 - 0.32 - PASS NOx (ppm) - 879 - 997 - FAIL I know I will need to check various parts to determine what's causing these readings. I just don't want to pay $90 to have someone diagnose it when somebody here might be able to give me insight on what may be going on. Thanks for any help~
  11. I've been out of town for the past week and came back to find my ES's front bumper egged. :cries: I live in on-campus apartments at my college, so I'm pretty sure it was done by a couple of pathetic kids. Don't know when it happened. It's been blazing hot here, so the egg was pretty much baked on. I took it to the car wash and pressure washed it off ASAP. It still smells like rotten egg around that area. I've heard egg can do a number on the clear coat of a paint. Any tips or experiences ya'll would like to share?
  12. Looks great. ;) Can't wait to see what it'll look like w/the sideskirts!
  13. I'm turning 19 in a month. My dad passed down the '93 ES to me about two years ago. My very first car, and I couldn't be happier. My friends don't think it fits my age, but then again they haven't experienced the luxury of driving a Lexus. ;)
