  1. Man, finding a key FOB for my 93 SC is just impossible! Links posted here no longer work and I'm going to try something to fix my broken key fob and post results here. Lost little rubber button when housing fell apart BUT remote still works. On a different note, I saw killer video on YouTube of a 93 Lexus SC 400 with an 07' RX350 3 button remote that worked! Even made the same chirp sound as my RX350! What sucks is that the guy in the video just shows it off. Has no explanation on how he did it.
  2. Just had same problem. Backed out gas cap and realized no vacuum sound when car on E. There should or usually is a vacuum sound while opening cap when close to E. Cleared the rubber gasket around the inside of cap and made sure no debris at rim of tank inlet. Tightened cap 11/2 turns after clicking. Problem solved. Will also post what else I solved on my SC 400. Had an annoying rattling/buzzing coming from the right front part of the my Lex when I hit a certain speed. Usually in second gear around 20-25 miles an hour. Recognized this sound as a heat shield vibration but several to be found on this model. I noticed when I looked at the heat shield for the passenger-side catalytic converter that it seemed like the edge shouldn't be as close as it was. So with a pair of channel locks I wedged the mouth between the converter and the heat shield and worked my way across opening the gap evenly until it looked right, or how I thought it should look, being I'm not a mechanic at all...Lol.....Happy to say I fixed it myself in about five minutes and now enjoying the sweet sound of silence. This comes after years of hearing the annoying rattle and even a stop to my local muffler shop, didn't solve the problem. Chalk up one for the owner!😜
  3. Yeah, was hoping a hard reset would have worked. Even wd40 terminal ends and gave an extra cleaning before putting back together. Hoping there is a way of testing the engine ECU so I don't have to spend money I don't have, on something I don't need.
  4. There was one thing that would happen, don't know if it helps diagnosis, but for the past couple of years, the engine light along with the trac light would come on at the same time. Car ran great so I didn't think much of it, then after driving for a while, or if I would open it up on the highway, they would just go off on their own. I only run premium fuel and in the the last month I replaced the timing belt, water & fuel pump, radiator, thermostat, tensioner pulleys, air filter, struts and strut mounts. Basically everything that may cause a breakdown for the trip from Long Island to Port Saint Lucie FL. Car made it down fine with 204k+ miles on it. Always got the oil change when required. MAF is very clean and noticed after driving a week after having timing belt done that the MAF sensor wasn't reconnect and car still ran fine. Throttle control seems to be working ok too. Outside closes for choke when key is turned on, but don't know about inner, but wouldn't it turn over, at least for a second with starter fluid? That's why I'm thinking engine ECU. Anyone know of a way to test it? Cheapest I can find is used at $120 on eBay.
  5. I was thinking engine ECU after reading similar posts...thanks for the help!! Appreciated!
  6. Hello, I'm having same exact problem. Did you ever resolve? It's my only car and can't figure out. Thanks!
  7. Checked all fuses inside and out. All ok. Took fuel rails apart and turned key, plenty of fuel, took #1 spark plug out from each side, cranked, plenty of spark from both sides (bright blue/white) tried starter fluid in throttle body, won't turn over, just cranks. Any ideas where to go from here?
  8. I have an auto zone but it's several miles away and would be a costly tow there and back. Just moved to Florida and money is very tight. Checked all hoses for anything disconnected, all looks good. I could use a mechanic that makes house calls in the Port Saint Lucie area.....
  9. Hello, I have a 93 sc400 that I drove a short distance, about a mile, then turned the AC on and a few minutes of running, the car started idling really rough so I turned the AC off and tried giving a little gas to clear up but it ran rough and then died. Tried turning over and won't. I can hear the fuel pump working so I know it's not that but have no money to get it diagnosed. In a real jam. Any ideas of what it could be? Also I let it sit overnight and tried turning it over and it sounded like it was about to start and then won't. Thanks for any assistance.
  10. Well, I can't comment on all and exactly on your vehicle, but what I can say is how easy it was for me to change the pads on my Lexus SC400 and was pretty *BLEEP*ed when I realized just how easy it was, after paying some pretty high prices over the years, but in the present state of the economy every penny helps so I Googled how to on the internet and gave it a shot. For a 1st timer, flawless job and the money I saved was ridiculous. Now, my Lex has 4 wheel disc braks where as you may have rear drums, which is a whole different animal, but as long as you don't let the pads wear to metal, you really should not need the drums cut. I do trust my Meineke mechnic, who has been in business for many years doing braks, and after doing this job with 100% success, trust me, it's not rocket science, I can tell you, he won't be seeing me there again for breaks unless I need to get my rotors resurfaced.....lol In the meantime, I will invest the saved funds for top of the line pads, which is exactly what I did....Good luck :) P.S. ABSOLUTELY AVOID JIFFY LUBE FOR ANYTHING!! SUB-PAR MECHANICS FRESH OUT OF BOCES OR RIGHT OFF THE STREET, I DON"T KNOW, BUT KNOW 2 PEOPLE WHO LOST THEIR MOTORS DUE TO LOOSE OIL PAN BOLTS FALLING OFF AFTER A VISIT.
  11. I have a 93 Lexus SC400. While driving, car running perfect, I came off an on ramp and went to accelerate to highway speed and felt a very sudden loss of power. I can feel car not running on all cylinders. Let car sit over night. The next day I tried running the car and the motor does runs smooth, without any rough shaking, but when I rev the motor, I can here that it sounds like a six cylinder and no power off the line. Ran car for a bit and noticed both Cat Converters glowing bright orange. I don't think both would go at the same time but what could it be that would make the vehicle go from running mint to that, in a few seconds? I aways have my oil changes done at 3000 mi. and I only run Hess Premium grade fuel. Please help. It's my only vehicle.
  12. I talked to my brother and he seems to think it might be either the throttle position sensor, or the fuel filter, but it doesn't explain the smoke and rubber smell coming from the engine. Any ideas?
  13. Hello, This is my first post. I was driving my 93 SC400 last night and while entering a highway, the car had a very sudden loss of power and bogged down. I had to gingerly raise the excelleration to highway speeds and barely made it home. There was a smell of a combination of rubber burning and anti-freez. I started the car today and it is running rough, sounds like it's not running on all cylinders. I always do my schedualed oil changes and only run Super Unleaded gasoline. Any one have any ideas of what it could be? I checked to see if the serpantine belt was smoking, but did not see anything visually wrong while the motor was running today. I found it odd that it was running absolutely perfect one instant and then horrible in another. Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is my only vehicle. Thank you.
