  1. I think this will get you to the topic. http://us.lexusowner...topic=15699&hl=
  2. I decided to upgrade my ecu to address problems of stalling after highway driving and throttle shock when driving in town. These issues were discussed in depth by 95LS400Bob about 7 years ago. I replaced my original ecu 89661-50221 with ecu 89661-50224 from a wrecked 95LS400. This is the ecu that was recommended in a Lexus TSB to address these issues. Just return from my my first highway trip since I changed my ecu. Car ran great. No longer have any issues with stalling, throttle shock or erratic idle speed. I want to thank Bob and LOC for all the information which made this repair as easy as plugging in a new ecu.
  3. This is the problem addressed by 95LS400Bob years ago for which there was a Lexus TSB issued. The car stalls when returning to idle only after highway driving for 30 minutes or more and then restarts immediately.
  4. Is ecu 89661-50224 still the recommended replacement to fix stalling after highway driving?
  5. I have a sticky interlock solenoid which frequently prevents the key from going to the locked position to be removed. I think when the solenoid is deactivated it does not return to the correct position. Any suggestions on fixing solenoid or by-passing it? Will disconnecting the power to it work? Any suggestions will be appreciated. 95 LS400
  6. How do you remove the dash trim panel around the ignition switch on 95LS? My key interlock sometimes prevents the key from going to the off position for removal. Any tips will be appreciated. TIA, Mark
  7. Can the bearings on this pulley be lubricated or is it sealed? Mine makes a periodic chirping sound. This is the free pulley, not the one on the the belt tensioner. 95 LS400
  8. Anyone know the torque specs for alternator to engine bolts, 95LS 400? TIA
  9. Are there any fusible links for the charging system other than the 100A fuse cartridge in engine compartment fuse box? Also, are there any relays for the charging system that should be checked before replacing failed alternator? TIA,Mark
  10. Has anyone had any experiences with Autozone's Duralast remanufactured Denso alternator with lifetime warranty. TIA, Mark
  11. Why not have your existing alternator rebuilt by a reputable auto electric shop. Remove yourself & take it in... Much cheaper & you retain yourself OEM alternator.... 5 Auto electric shop said it was not practical to rebuild.
  12. I need to purchase an alternator for my 95 LS400. Any suggestions on brands and where to get it from.
  13. You're right to want to turn off the auto. On the left side of the steering column, below the turn signal lever, you'll find both the tilt/telescope button and the auto button. Press the auto button to turn the auto feature off. You will still be able to adjust the wheel with the other button whenever you like. My 95 does not have the auto button.
  14. Look under the dash just to the right of where the steering shaft goes through the firewall. You should see two electrical connectors plugged into a brown circuit board box. One is white and the other is blue. With the key on and the steering wheel in the position you want it, unplug both of the connectors. The steering wheel will now stay in this position.
  15. My 95 LS seems to wander guite a bit on the highway also. I describe it as a lack of on center feel in the steering. I have not tried anything to correct it yet. I am curious if yours can be corrected with custom alignment or different tires. Please post if you have any luck correcting this problem. TIA
  16. Nothing to remove, just look under dash where the steering shaft goes through the firewall and you can't miss it. Be sure to have steering wheel in desired position then pull both plugs out and your done. My car does not have seat memory so I don't if the wiring would be different on those models.
  17. If you are talking about the up and down auto tilt it can be disconnected. On my 95 LS I placed the steering wheel in the position I wanted for driving and then disconnected the blue and white electrical harnesses that are plugged into a brown box which is located inside the car on the firewall just to the right where the steering shaft goes through. Once this is done the wheel remains in the set position and can't be adjusted. Mine still worked fine but I figured it would break sooner or later and was a feature I could live without.
  18. My Lexus does not seem to have a precise on center feel especially on the highway. I feel my BMW had a much better steering system. The car tends to wander some and requires minor steering corrections. The steeering is tight but force required to frequently correct on highway with no boost can be annoying. I know tires, alignment, and worn suspension components could also cause some of these symtoms.
  19. Has anyone ever wired the solenoid so that maximum boost is continuos at any speed? Also, if this was done is there any chance it could cause any damage to the system?
  20. That is your brake pads shifting back and forth in your caliper. My guess is that you have after market pads that do not have the proper shim and fitment kits. I went through this extensively myself last year. Went and bought a set of autozones, they clanked....went and bought some ceramics....clanked....finally ordered oem, shim kits and fitment kits all around.....no more clanks. Thats what I thought might be the cause. Your right, the front pads were replaced with non oem's before I purchased the car. I will live with it till time for new pads and get oem's then. Thanks
  21. I have a 95LS that has a clunk the first time I apply the brakes going forward if the previous time the brake was applied in reverse. After the first stop going forward it does not clunk again until you have backed up and use the brakes in reverse. I have never really tried to isolate the noise and just gotten used to it. Maybe I have the same problem as you. Please post the results of your repair. Thanks
  22. Just drove 1000 miles, all interstate with cruise set on 70. Got 28 mpg with premium gas. I was only person in the car and had no luggage or extra weight. I was really surprised. 95 LS 400
  23. Moisture is getting in parking light assembly which is located on corner next to headlight. Has anyone tried to repair this assembly and if so what did you do to seal it. I removed and dried it out once, but moisture has return. If no easy fix I quess I will live with it. tia Mark
  24. Are there any tricks to removing the back seat cushion. Tutorial for Gen 1 shows black tabs. I do not see any under the 95 seat cushion. TIA, Mark
