  1. I hope that was your out the door price including all taxes, etc. , otherwise that would exceed MSRP per the Lexus Website. Even with taxes, it sounds somewhat high to me. Perhaps the FWD is not discounted as much as the AWD due to lower volume of sales and availability. Anyway, it is a great car and too late to worry about what you paid for it, so just enjoy driving it.
  2. Don't give up yet. I just passed 1000 miles and gassed up for the 3rd time. Second tank averaged just under 26 mpg - both computer and manual calc. I reset the computer after the that fillup. This last tank was even better. The trip computer calculated 27.9 mpg. My calculation of fuel consumed showed an even better 28.75. I would estimate 70/30 highway/city driving. My electrics shut off quickly too when starting from a stop. However, I have noticed that the worst mileage is the first outing of the day or whenever the engine is cold or the batteries are not charged - not sure which is really causing the issue. This past week, I have been driving a relatively short 5 miles one way. The car sits all day, and then I make the return 5 mile trip in the evening. I am doing well to average 24 mpg in all slow, city driving. About the time I am ending my trip, I start to see the electrics begin to perform a little longer. Others have posted this same issue. There is a "warm-up" period during which the mileage suffers. If the 400h is going to be used consistently for very short hauls, there may be difficulty in achieving predicted mpg levels. Otherwise, be patient, the mpg will come. Enjoy.
  3. I have squeakers here in IL too when going in reverse first thing in the morning. Then, never again until the next morning. I have the same issue on my 1999 RX 300. I am not too worried.
  4. Stiks - If this is the way your Dealer treats a majority of its Lexus customers, it won't be under the same management for long. Your experience is not normal for Lexus customers, otherwise, Lexus would never have risen to current level of notariety. Our Dealer took a $1000 refundable deposit and wrote a contract with the sales price listed in the contact as sticker. When the time came to close the deal, there was never an attempt to sell us any extras, period. I am sorry you did not have a similar experience. I agree, take this up with corporate.
  5. I know the owner's manual says that 87 octane is the minimum required and that 91 is recommended for improved preformance, but has anyone experienced any issues such as pinging when using 87 grade? Anyone noticed difference in performance, mpg or anything else when using higher/lower grades of fuel.
  6. It is now official - 400h has been approved by IRS for tax deduction as of 5/6/2005. "05/06/2005 Torrance, CA May 6, 2005 - - Lexus announced today that it had received official notification from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) that the 2006 model year RX 400h is certified for a clean-burning fuel deduction. This certification means that taxpayers who purchase a new RX 400h during calendar year 2005 may claim a tax deduction of up to $2,000 on Form 1040. 'Lexus RX 400h purchasers can use or take this certification to their individual tax advisors to determine how they can take full advantage of this important federal tax benefit,' said Bob Carter, Lexus group vice president and general manager. "
  7. I may have become disappointed a little too soon. I took your advice again - I reset the MPG calculator again today for the second time. Today, I travelled a total of 55 miles, 15/85 city/hwy. I started off with about 4 miles of city driving and the MPG registered 32+ :D . The next segment was about 20+ hwy miles. This lowered the computer calculated average for the 25+ mile trip to 31. After the return trip, the overall mpg for the 55 mile excursion did drop to 29. Now I will have to say that I did everything I could to make sure the electric motors were operating whenever possible. I backed off the accelerator, coasted, cruise control on hwy at about 63 mph - I did change my normal driving pattern somewhat. It is disappointing that it may be necessary to change your normal driving patterns in order to achieve near predicted mpg numbers, but I guess it is possible. At least it was on this day. Tomorrow I fill up and will get mpg calcs using more traditional methods. However, I do not anticipate anything close to these results.
  8. My MPG numbers are so far disappointing. I have 600 miles on the 400h and I am very easy on the gas and don't run the climate system unless absolutely necessary. I am also NOT experiencing the inverse city/highway mpg returns. As Rx400hGirl suggested, yesterday I reset the mpg calculator, and much to my surprise, I got 19.3 in the city and later in the day I got on the highway and the mpg increased. Buy the end of the day, the mpg had gone back up to 24.5. I will give it more time, but my numbers are no where close to what Rx400hGirl is seeing. I am jealous. It will be back to the Dealer after I put on more miles if this continues.
  9. I would like to upsize to 235/70/16 from the OE 225/70/16 but do not know if I will experience any rubbing from the slight increase in size. Has anyone done this? Thank you.
