  1. OK, So after a seemingly benighn problem of the VSC/ABS/BRAKE lights coming on and the buzzer last week, My Power Brakes have now taken a dump completely. Is there any friggin way of telling if the power brake booster or some other electronic device told the booster to go out? The brakes worked absoltely fine until it went out without notice (no probs while driving on freeway) Is the brake booster powered by a hydraulic motor or by standard vacume from the engine? At 65 MPH coming off the freeway they went out, so I really had to hammer the brake pedal down even to stop...had my wife been driving, I would be at the hospital looking at a broken nose due to the airbag when she would have hit the car in front. I almost did. Thank you for any help or responses
  2. Now, is that only through the dealer, or can the "Lexus" scan tool be gotten somehow else? Thanks for the reply BTW :-)
  3. Tex, Not to argue, but many people who have posted on the Lexus forums have replaced Rotors at $225 (parts only) a piece only to discover the brakes still vibrate. Turning a rotar a few hundredths of an inch "trues" the rotar. Also, when the rotar is being turned you can watch and see if the rotar is really warped....in my case none of the 4 rotars were warped, the turing simply made them very smooth again. My hunch is that there is a common problem in a tie-rod, or stablizer fitting that shimmieds upon braking, and it seems very common to GS300's. I love my car, but you should not have to replace expensive things like Rotars on a Luxury car every 75K miles....heck, the stock brake pads alone last to about 50-60K.
  4. My 98 GS300 also pulsates while braking. Usually at 55+ MPH. Any not all the time....which really confuses me. I put new ceramic brake pads on, greased the caliper bolts, and had the rotars turned about .02 inches each (not much). Still vibrates when braking. Oh yeah, tires are new, Yokohama's (handle very well) :-) My old car, a 88 Chev beretta (hahaha) had 225K miles on it and never vibrated while braking, this is the first car I have owned that does...and it seems a lot of GS owners have this problem.
  5. Ok, I posted a thred last week about a strange loud noise coming from behind the dash/steering. It happened sparadically, and stopped. Well this week that noise returned. This time the noise was accompanied by some electrical problems: While driving on a 3-Hr drive, the radio started intermittantly cutting out, lights and musis, then I started hearing the noise (like airblowing inside a pipe) about 2 minutes later the VCS, ABS, BRAKE, and VCSoff Lights all lite-up and the VSC beeper tone came on constantly for about 3 minutes. The car braked Fine, accelerated fine, shifted fine, steering fine, while the lights and buzzer were going off, then about 2 or 3 minutes into it the lights all turned off the buzzer turned off, and the car kept driving for another 1-1/2 hours. The next day on the return trip, the same problem occured 2 more times. I hooked up an ODBII scanner, and received no error codes. Any Ideas?
  6. S2KDDS, Hey, did you order the rim from Toyota Directly, or through the dealer. All 3 Lexus Dealers in the Phoenix area told me that all chrom lexus wheels are chromed after the wheels get to the US. Also..The chrom was peeling at 60K miles, cuz thats when the air pressure proplem started...I think Lexus "The passionate pursuit of perfection" should be replacing wheels that peel....wheels simply should not go bad, period. (unless smahed into a curb...hehe)
  7. Mine squeeks too sometimes, usually only when I turn it off and am still holding onto the steering wheel, and once in a while in the winter when its cold outside. Man...what in the world WAS lexus thinking? hehehehe
  8. :o Lexus dealer here in PHX is the ones who told me the rims are all sent out to be chromed, they also had a very very hard time finding replacement center caps, because chrome centercaps are aftermarket (at the dealer) also. its a 98, and the wheels did come with the car new...its got 140K miles...Do you think the dealer will still fix the problem? If so, awesome thx
  9. Yo Yo ya'll My Power Button only impacts the RPM by maybe 50 to 100 RMP. The only time im hittin 4K on the tach at 80 is when Im pushen the metal down heading toward doing 90, or when I leave the darn shifter in 4 after being stuck in traffic jams.
  10. My 98 has a throttle cable...its very easy to see near the top back of the engine, next to where my SRT intake connects to :-)
  11. Where did you get re-build kit for callipers - Lexus says there is no kit? Also, what brake fluid did you use? -D out :-=)
  12. ;) '98 Drk Green/Gold Letters 145K miles, and still strong! SRT Intake & ECU (BETTER Gas Mileage and better throttle response- YES really!!) (Instake sounds great) Infinity Kapas speakers & Crossovers in all doors (2) Yes thats TWO 12" Rockford Dual Coil Subs in Sealed Trapazoid Box 2 Ohms (Box is a perfect fit in the back of the trunk once stock sub is pulled out, I still have crap load of trunk space) 600W Bazooka Amp for Subs (It Rocks, and bass stays INSIDE car) Valvoline Full Synthetic Oil & K&N Filter Yokahama Tires (They Stick!) Probs: -Rear Passenger struct makes noise over bumps (has for 3 yrs) still rides fine -Loud sound from behind dash at random (not a friggin belt) it only occures once and a while, and is loud and high-pitched (no idea what it is doesnt correlate to engine RPM or vehical speed - has happened in park at start, and on freeway -Wheels chrome peeling, causing tires to loss air -vibration SOMETIMES as if wheels out of balance -vibration SOMETIMES when braking at freeway speeds (cant figure it out, rotors are perfectly round and turned, still vibrates at braking) Plan on doing the TC change this year, as well as re-building the tranny with new valve springs and tighter steels/frictions tomake it shift quicker. Also want to do Turbo, but afraid of turbo failure (oil probs in other turbo) No other problems, I love the car except the wheel vibrating.
  13. So, my tires keep losing air for the past year. And there is a vibration like they are out of balance. So, after buying new Z-rated tires again, Im still having the air loss and vibration. Stumping both me and the employees at Discount Tire Co. Finally I take it back and speak with a manager and had the road force test the wheels and tires, and they show me why the tires are loosing air...they found that the chrome is peeling off the rim, and the manager who found the problem told me its a common problem with Lexus Stock Chromed rims, because apparently Lexus Rims arent Chrome Stock, Lexus dealers send the rims to be chromed. Anyone else with similar problems?
  14. AC has been on and off....strange thing is that the sound is very very loud, and sounds like its rom inside the dash, not the engine compartment. similar sounding to an air-horn, but not quite that loud
