  1. Yes, clear coat on the RX is very delicate. If your car is a daily driver you must beware every time you touch the paint or drive the car you may leave marks. The first thing to do, you've already done. Avoid touching car washes. No let me take that back. First adjust your expectations. If you want a clean car that looks great to 80% of the population, then using a touching car wash is the answer. On the other hand, to maintain the car in pristine condition you may need to purchase a relatively(?) inexpensive Poter-Cable dual action buffer with a set of Meguiar's microfiber, dual action pads and the accompanying two products, D300 correction compound and D301 finishing wax. Once a year thoroughly hand wash the car, clay the car, carefully buff the car with D300, then follow with D301 and then a quality sealant wax. The rest of the year routinely hand wash and maintain with a spray wax. Remove light dust with a quality spray detailer. Every so often buff with D301 and follow with a quality sealant wax. This is just one, perhaps over simplified, method as there are many on the Internet that will help you maintain the car the way you want. Careful washing and good maintenance techniques will help. Using a touchless car wash is a good medium between hand washing and brush tunnel washes, just expect the car to not be as clean. Good luck and enjoy your clean car.
  2. Ron, you definitely have the experience and skill set to deal with this situation. Whether Toyota/Lexus practices Six Sigma or Kaizen, they still owe you a safe and warranted product. Whether they owe you a new vehicle or a repaired vehicle, is probably a subject for some other discussion or is detailed in some ultra-fine small print in some arcane legal document. You need to do what you feel is best for you and the safety of your family. It does sound like they've done everything possible to put you on the defensive, including putting you in an "interrogation" room for your meetings.
  3. Ron, are you the "owner", "driver" or "customer"? Your posting makes it sound like someone else owns the car. If you are the owner, then the car is covered by a warranty. Get the car fixed by the dealership. If they won't or can't, get on the phone and call Lexus corporate. Purchasing an extended warranty does nothing to solve your current problem. As I understand it and I maybe wrong, Canada does not have a national "Lemon Law" however each province may have consumer protection statutes. When you purchased the car, Lexus may, or may not, have provided a booklet detailing those consumer protection statutes. I would suggest you become familiar with your responsibilities for documenting your efforts to resolve the reoccurring problems you are experiencing. Don't delay in reporting your difficulties as there maybe time limitations for reporting your problems. It's unfortunate you are experiencing these difficulties and the ensuing disruptions to your life. Lexus, like other automobile manufacturers, purchase parts and assemblies from other manufacturers and vendors and sometimes those parts are or become defective. Granted the braking system is a huge component of automobile safety and reliability, it may not be reflective of the reliability of the car as a whole. Good luck with your issues and continue to be persistent with the dealer and corporate Lexus to resolve your problem.
  4. AZ - A couple of thoughts, first there may be nothing wrong (although you seem to indicate your other cars don't react this way). It may take a while for a car with a black dash sitting in the sun and 100+ outdoor air temp to start cooling down. If the fresh air/recirculation damper is working, fresh air should be shut off and as recirculation occurs the discharge air temp will slowly drop. Whether the car is stationary or moving, may not matter. Have you tried just starting the car and sitting still and monitoring discharge air temp. It could be dropping in a manner similar to when you are moving. Therefore motion has no bearing on what you are experiencing. While it is entirely possible one or more of the input sensors is defective and the computer is making bad decisions based on those sensors or it could be defective making bad decisions on it's own and or the output servos are not working properly. Not sure what model year your RX is, these switches vary by model year, but try messing with the fresh air / recirculation air switches see if they really perform any functions. Listening and or monitoring discharge temperature may give you a clue. I think a service tech can take some resistance reading of the input sensors to determine proper functionality and probably check their function when they plug in their service laptop. The ambient sensor and the smog sensor are in the engine compartment or in front of it, the sunlight sensor is on the dash and the cabin temperature sensor is an aspirating sensor located behind that little vent to the right of the steering column. Lastly, you can just keep dragging the car to the dealership and keep beating on them for service without doing all this self-testing. It's under warranty!!! Best of luck,
  5. Your dealer may have asked about direction as the car has a sunlight sensor. The sunlight sensor, ambient temperature and cabin temperature all play a role in how the A/C functions. In addition to possibly a smog sensor. Plus how you have all the controls set, which I'm going to assume everything is in auto and temperature set as low as it will go(?). Just remember the car remembers the settings associated with the key fobs. So if the car is locked and you use key fob A to unlock the car, the settings will revert to those settings memorized and associated with key fob A. If key fob B has a different set of settings memorized, those setting will be called up when key fob B is used to unlock the car. Of course, if you just get in the car and adjust everything, the settings memorized have no bearing. As Lenore has indicated, the compressor [usually] is efficient. It's a variable speed electric compressor. If the car is under warranty, continue in your efforts for a solution. Until then, I might suggest continuing to monitor the fresh air and recirculation air LED's for any anomalies you can report to Lexus. Guessing from your username, you are familiar with all of this discussion. Fan speed will also play some role in outlet temperature (depending on compressor output), but a slower speed will have a colder temperature as the difference in temperature across the coil will be greater. As you mentioned volume, a higher speed with help with the volume of air involved. Now I gotta find a thermometer and check mine.
  6. I never realized it would output 36/38 degree air. Seems really cold. You made me want to check mine out. What is your outdoor air / recirculation air doing during these transitional periods? Just as an incidental question, what color is your interior?
  7. Not sure fractured sunroof/moonroof is a common problem, but it does occur and this quote below is from Edmonds.com and you may take it with a grain of salt. I do disagree with the quote that they are not manufacturing defects, as I believe there can always be manufacturing defects, whether a defect when manufactured or when installed or being transported from the point of manufacturer to the dealership.
  8. I haven't seen the 2013 integration of the iPod/iPhone USB, but if they improved scrolling that would be a big plus. Adding alphabetical selection would help. Improving the in-car voice command system would be nice too, recognition is error prone. Will wait to see how SIRI integration works out.
  9. I dislike touch screens in automobiles and love the Lexus remote touch. No opinion of hard drive based music. Use an iPod/iPhone Have no or very few Bluetooth audio problems. Would rather listen to music, rather than engine/exhaust noise. I've already said I don't like touch screens in automobiles - Lexus has it right I rarely touch controls. No opinion on capacitive touch controls Lane departure might be okay, if you've ever fallen asleep at the wheel, you might like it. Night vision might be nice if it saves me from hitting a deer - not likely Facebook and Twitter - not needed while driving Ergonomics - Lexus has it right Cameras - a tool so use them, just don't forget to use your mirrors Automatic Parking - some folks need it and it may well be the future on all cars
  10. If you don't get an answer here and you get one somewhere else, please report back. I'm interested in the answer. Thanks. Interesting too, that the state would give you reimbursement for hitting a non-fixed object. They get hit and spun around so often. I glanced at our state's "forms" page and didn't see a form to use for a claim. CalTran's was very easy to find. Good luck.
  11. Are you talking of this one? Check out this video on YouTube:
  12. One additional comment, check the Facebook page of the vendor/manufacturer. An inside look at their service from the comments or complaints.
  13. The next one you could check out is the CompuStar Drone Mobile. Be advised installation is just as important as the equipment. Look for a qualified installer and get references of successful keyless start cars. You don't want to be the first one for the installer. And it may be possible remote start will not work with your car.
  14. I'm guessing voice recognition expects first last and displays them accordingly. I know I have mine last first on my phone and in the car it's first last. You could create up to 20 voice tags saying last first of some of your most used contacts. No help, I'm sure. One other thing I didn't notice right off the bat was, a contact without a phone number won't load into the car. Well duh!!
  15. Temperature is going to have a bearing on your mileage. Is it colder outdoors now then previously? Short trips will be worst then longer. Are you driving more aggressively now that you're familiar with the car? Do you gently leave stop signs or punch out on gas engine? Check out you miles per gallon and miles per hour on your multi-purpose display. Does your navigation mileage history show few regeneration cycles?
  16. Yes, the car is built to start and stop the engine, so perhaps not a problem. However let's say there is a finite number of starts, how many are you making every day that would subtract from that finite number. Would you allow a non-hybrid to idle for 45 minutes? You may wish to evaluate your oil changes. How many miles would you be driving in 45 minutes every day? I have no clue what can happen and I remote start a lot in the winter and it idles a lot, but not 45 minutes daily.
  17. I believe the dealer must plug in their service laptop to install the update from the USB drive to your hard drive. The extremely high additional cost is labor and run time of their laptop. Ouch!!
  18. If you are truly making a decision based one this one factor, then wash the sand off the board take a clean bed sheet and head to a dealership and find out if it fits. If you are not serious stay at home and wonder about it the rest of your life. I'm sure sales people have had stranger requests. I was out of town, went to a Lexus dealership, told the sales person there was no chance whatsoever I'd buy from them, but I wanted to see if my 7' tall friend would fit in an RX, could we sit in a 450h. Not only did we sit in it, the sales person let us take it for a test drive (he went with us of course). It was one of the deciding factors in why I bought a 450h. Just go do it, the worst thing to happen is they say no. If they say sure go ahead, they'll help you to make sure you don't harm their car. Besides they maybe curious too and have been waiting for a surfboard.
  19. I have a Nokia G3 from where contacts cannot be transferred. I was inputting manually one by one. There is a provision for 1000 numbers and after inserting 1 it still reads as 1000 empty. The technician at the dealer connected his iphone and still he could not add a single number. This issue was then submitted by them to 'Lexus Canada' and no progress. They are not able to pinpoint a reason nor any resolution since May. iPhones and Lexus connect easily. Sounds like you need a warranty replacement. I'm surprised you didn't get it when the tech couldn't transfer contacts. Call customer service with test results and ask for a warranty replacement.
  20. Just curious, what phone are you using? One other approach is contact Lexus via Facebook.
  21. I read $3.50 of recharging gets you 13 miles. What have you seen?
  22. Hope I'm not telling anything you already know, but if you log in it will bring up only the manuals for your car. eDestinations are managed from that site and your service history is also available after you log in. This is all based on setting up your account with your VIN. I would hope all Lexus dealerships enter that information. I believe you can enter any service you perform. Sorry if that is information you were already aware.

Wind power has it's drawbacks too: Click here
  24. Mine was for an RX, but this is what was written on the service ticket LSB-0039-09 Whomever has been told there isnt a fix, perhaps there isn't one for your cars.

    450H

I have nav and my car also has the compass in the mirror. jr92591, I glanced at the on-line manual and pushing the "auto" button on the mirror for 3 seconds should turn the compass on and off, just as you indicated. Sounds like a trip to the dealership.
