  1. I have an RX300 2000 and I get about 19 - 20 MPG driving in the city, but only get up to 21 - 22 on the highway, sometimes lower depending on my speed...........

I used to get 23 - 25 MPG, but here in Fl 10-% ethanol is mandated, there are only 2 stations left that sell the "old" 100% gas stuff - they say it increases your mileage by 3 - 5 miles per gallon - the ethenal is also really bad for our engines etc - but this just means they can sell us cars more often - I think it is a big scam with the ethenol - costs more to make, doesn't seem to be saving us anything and makes you fill up sooner............so where is the savings??

I also was running leaner when my knock sensor needed to be replaced and was enjoying 25 - 26 MPG!!! I even asked if there was an ajustment to run leaner, they said no. I think my drop in gas mileage is EXACTLY due to ethenol.

    Hello,

I recently bought a Lexus RX300 and I absolutely love it. It is a 1999 with 120000 miles on it. However, I am a bit concerned with the gas mileage which is just a bit lower than expected. In the city I get about 16MPG and on the highway 20-21MPG. I am thinking that this might have something to do with the age of the car and maybe the compression in the cylinders. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I could do to improve the gas mileage?

  2. I had my oil changed yesterday - at an independent Foreign Auto Clinic in Melbourne, Fl - I asked for Synthetic - don't think I have used it before - it was about 43.00 out of a 91.00 bill.

Had to have a new battery cable clip put on - battery acid keeps leaking out - so I bought a battery at Auto Zone instead of another Lexus one.

I am going to put up a post regarding battery acid leaks - so far I have not seen this topic, but as this is my 3rd battery plus original on a 2000 and all the same problem - leaking acid.........

I finally did get an reputable independent mechanic to change the oil. His shop specializes in Toyota, Lexus, and a few luxuary car work. They charged me $60 for the whole thing. The mech did suggest what you did ArnoldsLex. He said that I could come in in 3000 miles and just change the filter and 1 quart might have to be added.

If changing the oil is as simple as you say, I may try to change it myself next time.

    Thanks for the advice guys!

  3. JUST today my RX300 did your window thing.............started to put it up and it comes up part way and then goes down, did it again and same things up and then down - finally after several more attempts I just put it all the way down, breathed a big sigh of relief as it then went back up - like you I am afraid sometimes of putting it down.

It has done this a few times before - on both sides - but then goes months and months without doing it -

What is the Pinch thing - and would it be necessary if it only happens every now and then??

I have few issues with my 2000 RX300 front wheel drive.

    Miles 84K.

The drive side window goes down but hesitates to come up.

If the window is half open, when I press up, it goes down instead.

When it is completely down, then it comes up.

Sometimes it doesn't come up at all. I have to wait for 15 20 minutes and try again and it comes up.

Few times, I had to shut off the engine, restart and then only it comes up.

I've noticed similar problem with my front passenger window when it's half open but it is not that bad. It always comes up when I fully let it go down and try.

I'm not sure if it is button or window motor or regulator.

Anyone has an idea of how much will it cost to fix it?

I have replaced window motors of other cars (chevy) before but don't want to mess with Lexus myself.

Another issue is the radio antenna. It goes up fine when radio is turned on.

When I turn radio off, I hear sound of the antenna motor but antenna doesn't go down..

I have to just press on the antenna tip little bit and it goes down smoothly, but if I don't give that initial push, it just makes sound for a while and stops.

    :-(

    thanks for ideas guys...

  4. Did you happen to notice if your RPM's were way up??? That happened to me when heading out on a trip, I have a 2000 RX300 and about a half hour into the trip I noticed the "Pitch" of the engine was wrong, slowed down and was better, sounded like the car was "racing" - well it wasn't going into overdrive - it was the oxygen sensor.

This is very expensive to repair - and I feel my Melbourne Lexus dealer really ripped me off - worse the 2nd time - when I had an oxygen AND a knock sensor done - I no longer will go there for anything, especially will not buy my 4th lexus from them!! They charged me $3500.00 for the two sensors - installing my "Free" ya right tires and some misc. items.........I was shocked at the bill.

I usually drive just the 12 miles round trip to and from my office, in town driving, so I believe this problem had been happening off and on - but of course, on a long trip it did not go back and remained with high RPM's the whole way - very long slow trip home.

    Hope this helps,

I have over 92.000 miles on my 2002 RX 300, and have had only a few problems or mysterious occurances.

    1. When the weather is cool (around 60 degrees), and the engine is cold, I sometimes cannot fill my gas tank above 3/4 full. This happened more often in January and February than any other month, and was more noticeable this year than last. Usually, I can fill the tank up all the way on the next trip to the gas station.

    2. I've seen several posts about mysterious clicks and squeaks behind the dash. I've confirmed that the problem is with the AC fan by turning off the air flow. (I live in Louisiana, so I run the AC year round.)

    3. In April, I was unable to get the vehicle started this afternoon. The service rep told me this has happened with other RX's, and it usually does not repeat. It hasn't.

    4. Unfortunately, I got hit with a bigger problem on the interstate last night. My vehcile felt like the accelerator was trying to get stuck when I started decelerating. When I pulled off and put it in park, the engine started "rev"-ing like I was trying to gun it. (My foot was nowhere near the accelerator at the time.)

When I started the vehicle this morning, the problem was still happening, so I took it to the dealer. They can't get the problem to repeat. They are keeping the RX overnight to try again in the morning.

I understand that fixing any kind of intermittent problem is very difficult. If anyone has experienced anything similar, please post the cause and fix here.

    Thanks!
