  1. I do not subscribe....and I'd prefer to not hear the voice on start up. Going in this week for the 'service'.
  2. I just purchase a 01 through Carmax. I purchased their extended warranty, so they have to deal with Lexus on repairing anything. I will not step foot in a N-ly dealership again and of course they are closest Lexus dealer to my house. Who does your routine service? I notice you are in Roswell ... what is a P-dealer? First off, congrats on the '01 LS430....you'll love it. Overall, mine has been bullet proof. Second...agree about the local N@#$%Y stealer...I mean dealer. Third... I service at Chequered Flag, local shop with reasonable prices and great service. He does not promote himself as a Lexus specialist. But I have only needed basic service. P-car and P-dealer is Porsche. I have a Cayenne (the Lexus is the wife's), and the Roswell Porsche dealer has treated me fantastically. B)
  3. I have a 2001 LS430. I'll go back and get the TSB# I agree a good relationship with the local dealer gets you someone willing to help. My local dealer doesn't care for me. My visits are treated as an annoyance to them....they have been quite dismissive. That induced me to seek routine care elsewhere. I guess I do not carry the right swagger. I got a geat P-dealer that can't do enough for me, and P-dealer reputation is horrible in general......whereas Lexus is oh-so-swell......go figure.
  4. I have had an LS430 for 2+ years and 50k miles. Picked up used (36k) and I am second owner. Well the amplifier for the Levison radio shorted and now no sound. This has been a long known TSB. I inquired with Lexus C/S if they would help me......no help cost to have dealer replace $848.00. Lexus C/S informed me that since I do not use thier dealership for routine maintenence that there would be no help. This was after a conversation with the Service Manager at the dealership where I have taken the car in the past. I will admit that I do not get regular service with the dealer and have been out of warranty for some time. I have used the dealer to replace the laser device in the front bumper for the guided cruise control....>$1500.00....and true I do not use the stealer for routine care....I must ay that the car has been previously bullet proof with no needs but basic service. My point: Known problem (though not a recall) A little help would have been nice Solution: Should be able to pick up an amp on ebay for about $400.00, and I should be able to replace the dead amp and it should be a plug n' play solution. Before I get the amp off ebay, I will check with some of the internet dealers for their prices. FWIW: My Porsche dealer has always been there for me with the mother ship....maybe I need another p-car :P
  5. You need to bed those puppies in. Being gentle is not the solution. Here is a great site that has instructions on bedding in new pads and rotors. I did this on my 2001 X5 4.4. I plan to do Zimmerman rotors and Axxiss Deluxe pads on my LS430 when the rotors need replacing. www.zeckhausen.com Have fun....but do it safely
  6. When cruise control is engaged the laser 'sees' the vehicle ahead of you and adjusts your speed accordingly so you don't run up on them. I haven't RTFM in detail about the system, but intend to do so when I'm 'fixed'. Thanks for the source for lexan, will try them
  7. I have an '01 LS430 with 48k miles. Took a trip recently and lost the cruise control. We have the Ultra package and the car has Adaptive Cruise control. The laser module in the front bumper took a peeble or rock or something, and the lense shattered. The stealer wants $1667.00 for the part, plus labor to install. Anyone else have this happen. Hoping the the replacement module will have a better lense....maybe a lexan cover. My guess is that the module has not been improved. Any thoughts on retrofitting a lexan cover over the lense??? BTW, my insurance will cover the damage, but I will have to pay the deductible..bites no matter how you look at it. Module needs better design.
  8. Saw the new wired/wireless kit from nokia. I am oredering one for my F-250, and if I can get some instructions on the console assembly in the LS430 I will install a kit there as well. Wish it would integrate with the Levinson....oh well, atleast it increases the versatility of the system. Nokia also tells me that the kit will be comaptible with future phones.....all I will need to do is get the cradle! Anyone know how to disassemble the 2001 LS 430 console!!!!! Thanks, Sean ;)
  9. 1990LS400, Your thoughts are appreciated. I don't quite have the guts to take apart the console without some guidance. Will try your rec resources. Still need to check with Nokia to see if the Bluetooth kit will hardwire the cradle with antenna and charging power. Will post what I find. Thanks, Sean B)
  10. I appreciate the input. I am thinking of installing the Bluetooth since the wife and I have 3 bluetooth phones between us. I just retro-fitted a bluetooth module to my 2001 BMW X5. It integrates with the Nav unit. It is fabulous, and I put the phone cradle in which charges the phone and gives me an external antenna. My Moto V600 is in the cradle. The beauty of the system is the integration with the 'head unit' , steering wheel and voice recognition. Now for the 2001 LS430. There does not appear to be integration with the Levinson System. But, I am now looking to see if I can do the Bluetooth and use a cradle that can be hard wired, as you have suggested, that would charge the phone and give me access to the external antenna. I wholeheartedly agree that using an external antenna dramatically improves signal strength.......and is worth the effort to gain that feature. But, I would only work for the hardwired phone. Though, for trips around town/local, the Bluetooth would allow any of the 3 phone to be functional. So, if there is a schematic for the phone connecor in the console, it would be sincerely appreciated. I will probably install the Nokia Bluetooth Kit for the 6820, and install the cradle with access to charging, muting and external antenna........I may be asking for tooo much. Thanks for the input :)
  11. Does the Levinson radio in an '01 LS430 have a mute input for muting on incoming cell phone calls?? If so, how do I access it. I am contemplating installing the Motorola handsfree bluetooth kit vs. the Sony Ericsson bluetooth kit. Both will mute the radio for calls. Too bad the Levinson Audio can't integrate w/ Bluetooth pre-2004.
  12. Appreciate the advise. Worked as you said. I skipped straight to the 'rolling code' instructions in :D my previous attempts. Therefore, missed the initial steps. Which by the way, the manual did not mention had to be done before the rolling :D code instructions.....Thanks again
  13. Is there a bluetooth retrofit kit for the 2001 LS430?? Thanks
  14. New to forum....Just got an '01 LS430. Cannot get Hiomelink to program. I cleared the unit as directed, then ran through the programming for my rolling Genie garage door opener....Any hints/suggestions??
