Lexus LC Coupe takes up Nurburgring 24 Hours challenge

The Lexus LC coupe will take on one of endurance racing’s greatest challenges this weekend, the 24 Hours of Nürburgring

Competing for the first time, the V8-powered LC has been race-prepared by Toyota Gazoo Racing and features advanced development technologies that are destined to for future production models. Focus areas include body technologies to reduce weight and increase rigidity; driver assistance; aerodynamics, suspension; and increased engine power and enhanced fuel economy.

The team have taken part in the event at the famous German circuit since 2017 and uses the experience to help refine both Lexus’s road-going cars and the skills of its people, introducing them to the teamwork, demands and pressures of racing.

The LC has undergone numerous tests in Japan since the end of last year, providing the team with data from the car and feedback from the drivers to help its development programme. The team’s goal is for the car to run for the race’s full 24 hours.

Takeshi Tscuhiya, lead driver, said preparations have gone well so far, including two trouble-free pre-races at the Nürburgring.

“The Lexus LC race car is still in its infancy but beginning to take its first steps. It will be some time before it can properly stand on its own but it will be well worth the effort. I’m delighted to be involved in the company’s efforts towards making ever-better cars for the future. As drivers, the four of us will work together to bring the company’s goals to fruition.” he said.

Tsuchiya leads an all-Japanese driver line-up that also includes Takamitsu Matsui, Naoya Gamo and Yuichi Nakayama.

The race meeting runs from this Thursday to Sunday. The race will get underway at 3.30pm local time on Saturday on a course that combines the Nürburgring’s Nordschleife and Grand Prix circuit. Each lap covers 25km and rises and falls through 300 metres.
