  1. While it's true that you can't send your phone book to a Lexus with an iPhone, the limitation is with the car and not the phone. I have an RX400h and a Tundra with the factory bluetooth and can't sync with either but the add-on Parrot LS3200 in my Honda S2000 syncs with my iPhone every time I start the car automatically. Actually you can argue that both the phone and the car are to blame. The Bluetooth standard uses the term "profiles" to define what BT functions a phone supports. Handsfree, Headset are the common ones for use as a phone or music headphones. When it comes to address books, there are a couple of different profiles that support different things - one profile lets you send one contact at a time (almost a file copy), and another profile supports address book access (viewing the address book on the phone). The iphone allows access to the address book, but not sending contacts. The Lexus supports Contact copy, not address book access. Additionally, the stereo music streaming BT function on the iPhone (A2DP) only supports a subset of controls - so you can send music from your iphone to BT headset or cars that support A2DP, but you can only pause and play - you can't skip to the next track. I would like to see Apple update the BT functions on the phone, as many other phones support all these profiles. Yes, I have simplified my descriptions of things so I did skip a few steps. BTW, if other phones can sync their address books with the Lexus, then wouldn't this make the iPhone the problem and not the car?

  3. by the car manual for ES330 - use 86 or higher I've tried 87 and 91 I haven't feel any performance diff. where MPG went up from 23.5 to 24.6 (two weeks average, the same drivings) Now, 91 cost 10% more then 87 and car is getting below 5% MPG economy If manual states to use 87 then why waste money? p.s. I use Techron bottle every 5k ml

  4. Such an old topic. This "debate" has been around since I can remember. I once had a Buick Wagon (remember them) and it ran fine on lower octane unless the car was full (of kids) on a long trip. It would ping, so I would use a higher octane. All the technical explanations are grest, but it is quite simple, the higher the octane the faster the "burn". Nothing more or less. No more power, no more pep, just a faster burn. Contrary to what I have read here, there is no warranty issue related to octane, not in my manual and I doubt it is in yours. If you are experiencing pinging move to a higher octane. But for most, the increase in octane is simply a feel good issue. If you feel it makes a difference then spend the extra money and buy it. That's why the Lexus sells in the first place. That logo does not make it run better than another Toyota or BMW, but many of us fee that it does.

  5. I actually sell racing fuels and octanes. I would take exception to the U.S. having the worst fuel in the world. That would be China and India. It is true though that the octane values fo fuels do tend to be higher in Europe..... If you have modified the engine such that it requires higher octane or Nos, then you already know you need a higher octane fuel. Otherwise, using the Fuel recommended by the manufacturer is critical to maintaining your warranty. If your warranty has expired, please continue to use the recommended fuel - with the following considerations: As previously discussed, pinging or clattering can result from a build up of carbon deposits - which can increase the compression ratio (and heat) in the cylinder. If the warrenty has expired and pinging starts, the engine may have had an increase in octane demand - beyond the the octane capacity of the originally recommended fuel. The engine needs decarbonizing or a tune up. Extended operation with pinging or clattering can (and probably will) cause engine damage over time. Service the vehicle and see if this stops the pinging. If it doesn't, go to the next higher level of octane, or try fuel from another station.
