i wonder why everyone always complains about the cupholders. Mine seem to function efficiently. :)

mine holds securely also for REGULAR-sized cups or soda cans. I can see a problem if you're trying to fit odd shaped bottles or super-sized cups. I think most people are complaining that you cannot have both the cupholders and ashtray opened at the same time and have them conveniently functional which is my case since I have a radar detector.
