CD changer failed

I have a 2006 LX470 (135K miles) with a Mark Levinson sound system and GPS. The CD changer in the center console (PT# 86270-60114 XDV-M8357) has failed and I am told that the manufacturer Pioneer Electronics, stopped making the required processor in about 2008 or 2009. The local Lexus dealer says they can replace my CD changer with a rebuilt changer for $800 plus labor. I was trying to have my changer repaired rather than pay $1000+ to have the dealer replace mine with a rebuilt unit.

Has any other owner in this forum had a changer fail and had it repaired or replaced? What was your experience and cost?

Has any other owner in this forum bought a used changer from a salvage yard? What was your experience and cost?

Thanks,

Couldbfishin in Houston, TX

PS- I love my '06 LX470, I tow a boat with it regularly and use it like a truck. My wife has a '00 LX470 with 250K miles on it and loves it. Won't sell it. Before these we had a LS-430 and an ES-350.

How has it failed? We occasionally get an error message when trying to play a particular CD but the error is intermittent. Our RX has about the same number of miles and is about the same age as your LX.

I get an error message with all CDs. Both self recorded and store bought, including multiple different labels. None work at all.

I took the CD changer to a Lexus parts department recommended auto audio system repair shop here in Houston, and the owner checked it out. He is the one that told me it was the main processor board. He called Pioneer in California to order a new board and they said they had not manufactured or supplied that board since 2008 or 2009. Just a couple of years after my vehicle was produced. That was a disappointment.

I still have the changer out of the vehicle. Hoping to find someone who could repair it, or exchange it for one that is working. I am old school (66) and have  a lot of CDs.

I would consider an aftermarket stereo system, but Best Buy tells me there are none that fit the LX470.

Any advice to offer?
