loud noise when in reverse

I have been told that the noise coming from the front of the car is to let the driver know when you are in reverse.   It is a safety feature because the car is so quiet.  I hear the noise once every 25 times I drive the car.  Also, could Lexus have come up with a less obnoxious sound?

I have a 2020 Lexus 250h

Any thoughts?

It's a feature to alert blind or sight impaired folks that a vehicle is moving possibly toward them similar to a back up alarm of a dump truck on a contruction site.

It's something started in Japan in 2010 and the US in 2011. There will likely come a day where electric vehicles are required to produce a certain amount of noise to notify pedestrians with vision issues of automobiles approaching them.
