Rodent prevention from getting inside vehicle RX 350

It was recommended that I put a wire mesh into engine compartment to stop rodents getting inside vehicle.  Is this an up sale and has there been problems like this before.  Also, has this been a problem with the RX-350 vehicle in the past.  Mine is a 2016?

I hate rodents. Is there an infestation in your house? I never experienced the problem.

My boss uses dryer sheets in his cars. He swears by them. 

I tried it in a car I have moth balled and so far so good. They smell good too. Swap them out every couple of months.
