HELP - Filled in diesel by mistake

Recommended Posts

I drive a lexus es350 07. I filled in diesel by mistake and before I could stop i filled in about 5gal. Now the car has 5gal diesel + 4 gal petrol. I drove 1mi after that to get it to my home and planning to tow the car to my local garage and have them flush the fuel system. But that can happen only tomorrow and I am worried about letting the car sit overnight with the diesel in it. Is there a way for me too siphon off the fuel from the tank ? Has anybody done this before on a Lexus ?

lexususer07,

Don't panic! Others have been there before you and its not as bad as it may seem to you.

There are some YouTube videos on just this kind of problem and the end results were not the end of the engine.

Yes, get everything drained out of the tank and fuel lines, change the fuel filter, and do it soon! I would tow the car to the mechanic, rather than drive it, but that's your call, not mine. I think you'll be fine once everything has been attended to, simply because you've caught the issue so early. good Luck!

      Hi -
We have a new nh300. The yellow light and low fuel alert come up only when the car has about half a gallon left (20 miles driving range with an average 34mpg), which is too low for us, especially when driving in Texas. Can the car be configured to set the alert when there is more gas on the tank? Or is there something wrong with our car? (it only takes 12 gallons when refilling right as the light comes up).
      Thanks in advance

My wife took her GX 460 in for the 30,000 mile service. We have about seven months left on the lease, and they told her that she needs all new tires, new brake pads, and new rotors. Total price tag comes in at about $2700.

I don’t know what kind of “butter” tires they put on these vehicles, but 30,000 miles is ridiculously low for needing a complete new set (in my opinion). I’ve owned a lot of vehicles, and 50,000 to 60,000 miles is more in line with my expectations for new tires. And that’s about what I replace mine at, and my wife and I drive in pretty much the same locations and conditions.

As far as the brakes go, well OK, I can understand that. Maybe she’s a little heavy on the brake. What I don’t get is the rotors. She always gets her service done at the dealership, and why they couldn’t tell her that her brakes were low before they started digging into the rotors is beyond me. Sounds like they could’ve caught it at the 25,000 mile service and saved me several hundred dollars on that front.

I mean isn’t the whole point of a lease to turn it in before you have to start shelling out for maintenance expenses like this? We’ve had the vehicle for about 29 months, so it’s basically like you need to set aside an extra $100 a month to pay for the extra maintenance expenses before you even turn the vehicle in.

Needless to say, I will get the tires and brake work done for about half the price at a local shop. They won’t be the premium tires that they are wanting to put on at the dealership, but frankly I don’t care because in a few months it’ll be somebody else’s vehicle.

      Disappointed. Rant over.

      Hi!
Have any you guys had a problem with the Rack&Pinion?
I went to the car service around my house(Knoxville, TN). They told me mine is leaking and needs to be changed.
I'm having a hard time deciding to change or not because it cost like 1500$
Do any of you have recommendations or any other place I should have service?

      Thanks!

The engine light and traction control light went on simultaneously.  They stayed on for about 2 hours (I stopped and started a couple of times), then they went off.
I took it to a Toyota dealer (after the lights went off by themselves) who confirmed that the engine light and traction control lights had been triggered, but they couldn't diagnose a problem.  So, they suggested watching to see if it happened again.  The lights went on again yesterday, then off.  They are on again today.
      Any idea what's happening?

Have an GX470 that has been a trusted companion for 8 years with 190k. Has worked for my wife and three kids. Was hoping to get the last 18 months of use until my last kid went to college, but the rear air suspension system is totally gone and the dealer quoted me $5,200. Dealer came back and offered a “kit” that would convert to a standard suspension that would be $2,200, but the car still has another $2-3k of other repairs to get it back to “normal”. I put Almost $1,500 into the air conditioning system a few years ago and promised that would be the last major investment. I was surprised that the blue book value still says the car is work $10k. Should I repair and sell, donate or just call it a day and sell it for scrap? Not sure if I could sell it in its current state. It’s an “extra” car and no longer needed, but sucking up too much time and resources. Any recommendations or thoughts about next steps? Thanks
