Piranha Posted April 25, 2004 Posted April 25, 2004 ok well i recently changed the rear speakers in my 95 ES. and this was back there. what is it? http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid1...80.jpg.orig.jpg
amf1932 Posted April 25, 2004 Posted April 25, 2004 Toyota calls this a noise filter, but it's probably a bass cutoff filter that's used to prevent overloading the speakers at very low frequencies. You could call the Toyota Corporation or your Lexus parts dealer and give them the part number and ask them what it's used for.
Piranha Posted April 25, 2004 Author Posted April 25, 2004 thanks i may do that, i changed the picture to a link. it should work now. anyone know exactly what it is for or is it a bass cutoff
Lex3486 Posted April 25, 2004 Posted April 25, 2004 Sorry man, but I still don't believe the link works, or at least not for me... <_<
amf1932 Posted April 26, 2004 Posted April 26, 2004 A bass cutoff removes the extreme low frequencies(below about 30hz) that you wouldn't normally hear anyway, but sucks up the amplifiers power and uses this power for the audible range of frequencies. As I said before, if nobody here can answer your question, get in touch with the manufacturer of the automobile.
Piranha Posted April 26, 2004 Author Posted April 26, 2004 im going to call, thanks. what would happen if i took it out?
amf1932 Posted April 26, 2004 Posted April 26, 2004 If you took it out you'd probably hear more distortion at high volume levels, but this is assuming that the filter is used as a low frequency cutoff. I don't think it could hurt anything if you tried removing it though. ;)
