ChristineS
Good morning and I'm new here, so thanks for having me. I am no mechanic by any sensedof the word, however, I've managed successfully over the years to repair my cars, for the most part, as needed through research. I'm flat out stuck, pun intended! I'm replacing the alternator in my husband's 2001 GS300... should be easy enough; removed alternator connector; the battery connector; the drive belt; the top bolt (14mm).... The problem lyes w the bottom bolt. Ive done alternators before and have had no problems, but this lower bolt isn't a bolt at all. It's a nut on a stud and I cannot jar it loose. There is nothing on the backside so not even sure why there is a stud and nut in the 1st place. Im just short of rounding this thing off.... I have tried spraying junk for release and extendors to add torque. I've also tried removing the top bolt to move the alternator back n forth (no easy task w this one) to see if it would help loosen the bottom "nut job" below..... one final note: Should any advice help remove the bolt, why is there a stud there instead and how do I get that out? Any suggestions? My next step is either a traveling mechanic or tow to Toyota Dealership. Thanks for reading and advice is ver much appreciated.
