cmshoot Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 Owner's manual calls for Type T - IV*. Can't find any such animal at my local auto parts stores. I found Castrol Full Synthetic Transmax. Says its for "all Toyota transmissions". Will this work? Semper Fi!
pachanga Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 I only found The Toyota Type IV at my local Lexus dealer/service dept. . $80 out the door for a case. Yes.. expensive. I did find a "compatible" non-synthetic transmission fluid at Pep Boys but... I decided to go with the genuine stuff from Lexus.
Exhaustgases Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 And any Toyota dealer parts department will have it too. I don't think they are as high as a Lexus dealer. Either way using anything else is just an experiment, and if you don't know how to take an automatic transmission apart and redo it then you best use the correct stuff.
cmshoot Posted December 29, 2014 Author Posted December 29, 2014 On the back of the Castrol bottle it says it meets the requirements of Toyota T-IV ATF fluid.
landar Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 On the back of the Castrol bottle it says it meets the requirements of Toyota T-IV ATF fluid. You could try Castrol but why risk it? You can get the T-IV at any Toyota dealer. I buy it by the case for something like $5 a quart. They usually ask $8/qt and I always talk them down. Just say you can get it online cheaper and ask for a better price. They have never refused me.
VBdenny Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 I bought a case at a local Toyota dealership. Maybe $6 a quart.
