Power Moonroof Question

Recommended Posts

So today I pulled into the garage and hit the switch to close the moonroof. It closed all the way and they proceded to open approx. half way. It did this several times. I had to used the key in the door to close it most of the way and then the switch to close it the rest. Any ideas of what could be causing this?

Thanks,

Nick

Never had that happen, but did have the moonroof snap a cable. You could pull the fuse for the moonroof to get any random electrical energy out of the circuit. Sort of a reset. It cannot hurt and often saves a trip to the dealer and $$$.

This is just a guess, but are our moonroofs affected by friction/resistance?

ie. if you stuck your arm out of the roof, and closed the moonroof, would it work like a garage door....touching your arm and then reversing?

If it did work like that, you could try some lubrication. (Graphite? Silicone? White grease?)

It's worth trying even if it doesn't explain why you had different results when trying the door key.

In my case, Lexus told me to actuate the moonroof periodically to keep the cables and hardware lubricated. Since I rarely used mine, the cable became brittle and snapped. So slide that thing a few times a week no matter what.
