Exhaustgases Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 Has anyone ever had to deal with a broke cable, broke hood latch? If so what did you do to open it? On this new to me ls400 a 92, sometimes the release handle will not return to its locked position. I want to be prepared just in case.
landar Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 Yeah, someone had a write-up on replacing the cable but I cannot search for it now. Welcome to the Lex family of aging but fine automobiles!
Exhaustgases Posted October 2, 2014 Author Posted October 2, 2014 Thank you for the welcome. I agree fine autos.
VBdenny Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 The "sometimes" is interesting. If it works sometime, it's not broken. Before I got into expensive stuff, try to get some lubrication into the cable and hood points. Could just be a cable hanging up a little if you are lucky. Welcome.
billydpowell Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 search for the write up, since yours is not broken... and look at it and see what needs to be done to open it.... experiment and then do a easy to find write up with good photos.... for others..
Exhaustgases Posted October 4, 2014 Author Posted October 4, 2014 I've studied it a bit. And of course with the grill in the way it wouldn't be easy. But if it will !Removed! to the back some when the mounting bolts are removed then as long as its not the hood latch frozen and just a broke cable. Then you could snare the lever that the cable connects to with some tough line or wire and use it to pull on you would likely need a flexable video scope to see things.
