Replacement Wheel Key For '96 Lexus Ls400

Recommended Posts

Hello, when I purchased my LS400 the wheel (or lug nut) key wasn't included. The shop noticed this when they were about to replace my tires and weren't able to get them off... Anyone know where I can order a new key?

If you do a "lost lug nut key" search on the 'net and possibly here, you'll find some good info on getting it off should you not be able to find a key that fits.

Discount Tire was a oft mentioned place in one thread I found.

You might want to check with your Lexus dealer on a replacement key. They'll probably need a key lock code number or something sililar. There might be a sticker applied to or a code written down someplace inside your owner's manual?

The dealer might even have a "master" key set to remove the locks. At one time, GM used splined locking lug nuts and many dealerships used to have these key sets.

Check your glove box and owners manuals, if you have them with your car. McGard supplied locking lug keys for many cars as original equipment, and chances are they supplied yours, too.

If you have the registration card for the locking keys (mine came in a small green envelope, and was in the owner's manuals), it's pretty easy. Information at: http://www.mcgard.com/index.php/customer-service/replacement-parts-ordering-information ..

Over the years, I've broken one key (d'oh!) and thought I had lost another (ended up being misplaced), so I've ordered a couple keys for my LS. Takes a week or two for turn-around, and the price was reasonable (>$15).

Worst case, if you absolutely have to get the locking lug off, hammer a slightly oversized socket over the locking lug and remove with a 1/2" breaker bar or impact. The lug will be scuffed up, but it will still be very usable.

Good luck!

Paul

      Hello -
My daughter totaled her 95 so we found a 96 and put the much lower mile engine in. Engine runs fabulous just like in the other car. After a few hours of running, the engine light comes on. Nether LS had codes before the swap Checked codes and get these: "PO450 Evaporative Emission System Pressure Sensor Sensor/ Switch" and "PO430 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 2". .
What I could find on out there was limited but I believe the 96 had an emission system that the 95 did not. I still have the 95 as a parts car so looking for best options to turn the engine light off for these errors. Again, engine runs fine and she is driving it every day.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I recently purchased a 1997 Lexus ls400 coach edition with 176k miles. As we were driving it home, the check engine light came on. We took it in to a shop that we've been going to for years and got a reading. They said it was the catylitic converters and that they needed to be replaced in order to pass inspection in Virginia. Since that shop only used brand new parts, each converter would cost around 2 grand. I started looking for cheaper alternatives and found some on rock auto and carparts.com for around $42-300 and was wondering if those would be a good idea to buy. Most of the ones I found had warranties so that would lessen the risk.

i have a 98 ls400 with about 244,000 miles on it. I’m having this very odd issue with the car. When I come to a stop light/ sign, the battery light comes on, rpms drop straight to 0 and the engine dies. Air and radio some times stay on. If I put it in park and restart the car the light goes away then its fine to drive until.. ya guest it I come to another stop. It does the exact same thing over an over at each complete stop. I assumed it was the alternator and I replaced it yesterday. No battery light, or weird idols happened for about a day. it is back to doing the battery light thing. If anyone has any Ideas of what it could be, or how to fix this issue id really appreciate it. ALSO not sure how old my battery is, changed the negative battery terminal when I did the alternator. Positive could be the problem (Corrosion on positive terminal) or maybe the terminal cable(s)?? Im very new to working on cars and any information is appreciated and retained.

If anyone could help it would be gladly appreciated. I have a check engine light on my ls400. Took it to autozone to let them use the code reader on the car. They told me one of the solenoids are bad on my transmission. If anyone can tell me, or help me how to correctly replace the solenoid and what tools I need I’d very much appreciate it. Or should I just have a shop do it?? Thanks
