Is there a source for a key code other than having to deal with the local dealer? I would strongly prefer to not have to deal with mine. The RX300 I just bought (my 2nd) came with only one key and no codes.

You are probably looking at erasing all the previous keys from your system (so that someone who has the 2nd key cannot access your car) and buying and programming a new key in. If so:

- if you need a 2nd key: buy a new key with a chip somewhere at the internet. This will be a second key for you (so that if you lose the 1st key, you'll have a spare). Make sure what you get is both the key and the chip inside it. You may want to check with any Lexus dealer for the "part number" first, otherwise googling for "rx300 key wth chip" gives a plenty of results.

- buy some cheap aftermarket programming cable e.g. this one.

- install the software called Techstream on your computer, connect it to your car with the purchased cable.

- erase all the previous keys (it will also erase your existing key) and program the new (1st/2nd) keys in. Better to browse the internet first how to do it with techstream. On the other hand, the software is rather intuitive and will guide you through the process.

Wow! That's great information!! Thank you Eugene!!

I just noticed this advertisment on our site for the things your looking for. I have no idea who they are or who has used them, but I do know that Steve B, the LOC Grand PoBa in the UK is VERY stringent about who he allows to place promotions to our members.

Additionaly, as a member of the Club, you can contact Sewell Lexus in Dallas, TX for any Lexus part. They give excellent discounts on parts to our members. As an example, I lost my spare FOB somewhere and after a thourough search I never found it. So, I called my dealer and they quoted me just over $300, plus $35. for programing. After telling them I only wanted the FOB not gold plate the door handles, I went on Sewells site and registered as a LOC member. I put in what I wanted and $161.00 and 2 days later I had my New FOB. The only thing I couldn't advert was the programing fee.

If you wish you can contact Sewell Lexus at "Sewellparts.com

I had to do mine this way Eugene because my Shade Tree skills are about the same as a Sea Slug.lol

Great advice, Paul, and thanks for keeping this forum ongoing - there don't seem to be many helping contributors nowadays, comparing to a couple of years ago...

In my case we have no official dealer on our island, so we have to figure out what to do with sea slugs ourselves ;)

Island ??? Did someone say Island ? Are we talking palm trees, white sand beaches type of island ??? Living on and island allways sounds so exotic and layed back. But looking at your header I'm guessing your island is more likely to be in the Canadian North some where.

Come back and tell us about island living.

Thank you as well for the kind words. Your correct in noticing that traffic on the site has slowed down since early last year. That is one of the major reasons for the Poll / Survey we put out during early Feburary. If your going to have a succesful business, you have to give your Members/ Customers what they want, not what you(staff) think they want.

Out of the survey data, we are looking forward to adding some newer features members say they want, and phasing out some that no one seems to care about based on frequncey of postings.

One thing that also came through the Poll/Survey results, is that over approx. 75% of your/our members think their LOC is a great place to hang out, find answers to problems, search for Lexus applications, get advice on bargining for a better price, and a place to make new friends. In the coming months, the staff will introduce some new ideas, which with your feedback will stay or go.

I have heard more than once that traffic on many of the item specific or enthuist web sites have all had down turns. Its just a guess but it may be that some of that slowed/lost postings has gone over to Face Book or someother social forum.

What are your thoughts guys and gals?

So, I took a picture of my key and 1010keys will make me one. I've dealt with them before. They do good work.

The key arrived in two days(!) California to Florida and works fine. Excellent!

That ikeyless website wants too much information before you can learn anything. Pass.

It also said they only sell to locksmiths, so I passed also.

Go to any reputable locksmith and they can create a key as well as set up the computer in the car for a new key. I just did this for my absentminded sister in law on a Sunday afternoon with premium charges and it cost $537 however if you go to them at their business on normal workday I am sure it is a lot cheaper.

I was able to get my key made by sending 1010keys a picture. They sent me a key and the code. And, in one of those moments we all have, I found the original key code on a smallish tag stuck in a corner of the owner's manual holder. The code matched what 1010keys had sent me!
