Center Console Beverage Holder Cover

The center console beverage holder cover of my 400h is stuck in the down position. Usually opens with just a slight amount of downward pressure on the cover; however, no amount of pressure will cause it to open. Certain it has a spring loaded mechanism; however, there does not appear to be any way to gain access to determine the problem. Any ideas on how to resolve this problem?

Taking that center console apart is a real b!#(h... Removing it is easy, but getting to it (and removing) the mechanical springs and gears inside for that cover requires a lot of patience!

Can anyone share procedure for opening/resetting the center beverage console in a 2004 RX330? Mine is also stuck in the closed position.

The gear on the cover has 8 teeth.   On mine, one tooth broke so when it jams shut I have to push it (lightly) 8 times before it opens again.  As stated earlier, accessing and replacing the gear is a real pain.
