Waterspots On Side View Mirrors Won't Go Away

We just bought a 2009 ES 350, CPO. Great car. The side view mirrors have water spots on them that won't clean off. The dealer said the mirror is not glass but is plastic so they can't be cleaned like glass (do not use anything abrasive), and had no solution for getting them clean.

#1 - really? Lexus designed a mirror that can't be cleaned?

#2 - has anyone else experienced this? Am wondering if previous owner put a solution on the plastic mirror that caused this...is this possible? what would they have done?

#3 - am wondering if I dare try goof-off on it....thoughts?

Thanks for any insights you might have.

Maybe try using some baking soda mixed with some water to form a paste and using a rag from an old t-shirt to lightly rub around the spots?

Could it also possibly be that the spots are actually on the inside surface of the mirror?

Try CLR solution diluted 1:1 with water. Let it sit for a few minutes for the chemical to dissolve the calcium in the water spots. No rubbing necessary. The mirror will end up squeeky clean with no spots.
