Oil Pan Leak

Can Oil Pan be effectively re-sealed ? My 1999 Lexus ES 300 is leaking oil from Rear of Oil Pan. One of the mechanic suggested to reseal while other said that reseal never works. I am confused whom to trust.

Any suggestions ?

Of course it can be resealed. But are you sure it is the oil pan or is the rear main seal on the engine leaking?

The oil pan uses a silicone based gasket (Toyota has their own sealant). But Generally they don't leak, I would suspect the rear main bearing seal.

How to identify leak from rear main bearing seal ? All I can share is the series of steps that mechanic ran through:

Raised the car.

Cleaned Oil Pan

Started the car and pushed the gas to higher RPM.

After a while one can see the oil coming out from rear of Oil Pan.

Would you consider this to be a good enough a diagnosis?

If it was indeed coming from oil pan and not dripping between transmission and engine block.
