spartan1685 Posted March 25, 2004 Posted March 25, 2004 I am getting an sc300 and want to swap in a twin turbo supra engine...has any1 done the swap? and if so how much did it cost.
SPORTcoupe300 Posted March 25, 2004 Posted March 25, 2004 It's been done many many times and cost varies depending on how crazy you wanna go and how cheap you can get parts/labor. If you want a ballpark: engine+tranny+LSD+ecu+labor comes to about $8-10K
AWJ Posted March 25, 2004 Posted March 25, 2004 I just met a guy who is doing that himself. He did all his own labor. I mean everything. From powedercoating the block to pipes and pulleys. Wiring and all. He spent 12,000 without the purchase of the car as it stands. He is not finished. It was very impressive. But not the cheap way to go in my opinion. Of course he is running a t78 greddy set up and g-force ecu. Not to mention some other extra tweaks. I think the na-t conversion is more pocket friendly if you keep it conservative.
Sadistic Posted March 25, 2004 Posted March 25, 2004 My conversion should cost around 5K. Give or take 500 bucks for little extras.
AWJ Posted March 25, 2004 Posted March 25, 2004 You know, I might be mistaken. That 12k figure might have included the cost of the car now that I think of it. I suppose it is possible to do.
Calvin L Posted March 25, 2004 Posted March 25, 2004 dont know about anyone else, but i am getting very tired of people asking about the ge-gte conversion. of course you probably heard from turbo magazine about the conversion. their project SCerious. then you decide to buy the car. ok good for you. do some research before you ask about the swap. you will find so much its not even funny, you wont be able to read it all. err sorry, just letting off some steam. people have to vent once in a while. that that was me venting.
jzz30 Posted March 25, 2004 Posted March 25, 2004 i plan to do everything my self as soon i get this motor lined up. i planned to get my motor like now but that isnt happening because i ended up having to work here in the motherland of JDM so i will shoot for summer. and really i dont think its that hard. i recently did a sr20 swap in my friends 240 and well all my fears of wireing have gone away, though my fears of money have not
Sadistic Posted March 25, 2004 Posted March 25, 2004 Well, my figure is a strict 5K because I'm just going to buy a Supra and take everything off it. Rear end, axels, suspension, brakes, motor, transmission, ecu, wheels. And just sell what I don't use. And a friend of mine wants the body and my stock stuff to some how put a TT 4 litre Lex motor back in the car. So in my case, it will actually end up being less than 5K because I'll get a lot of the money back for the things I sell including the body/chasis. Plus labor costs me nothing, and parts are cost. And the entire project is a tax write off :D
AWJ Posted March 25, 2004 Posted March 25, 2004 Tax write off. Now there's an idea. Just need a federal Id #. Hmmm.
Sadistic Posted March 26, 2004 Posted March 26, 2004 I have two if you'd like to borrow one ;) Some how I don't think the feds would take to that very well :whistles:
jzz30 Posted March 26, 2004 Posted March 26, 2004 where are you geting the tt supra for 5grand? i want one!!
Sadistic Posted March 26, 2004 Posted March 26, 2004 I'm going to buy a pretty much trashed Supra since I don't care about the body condition or interior for the most part. There are plenty of them around if you look. I'll most likely get a theft recovery car.
jzz30 Posted March 26, 2004 Posted March 26, 2004 all i see is ocean around me i would need some one to ship me a trashed supra if anything
BlackSC4 Posted March 26, 2004 Posted March 26, 2004 wasn't there a rumored 2006 supra? for ppl low in cash can wait til the new supras to come out first.
Sadistic Posted March 26, 2004 Posted March 26, 2004 This may be blasphemous, but I still don't think I would buy a new Supra. I'm getting too much into this Lexus thing.. Maybe if they did a 350/G35 type of thing, I would buy the Lex model, but other than that. Probably not.
AWJ Posted March 26, 2004 Posted March 26, 2004 I would consider it if it was a 3.3L inline turbo and called a 2005 Lexus SC330. And came with a 6 speed. But then I couldn't afford the insurance.
Sadistic Posted March 27, 2004 Posted March 27, 2004 You don't need insurance man.. Just get some hefty brush guards, and side rails.. You'll be fine ;)
jzz30 Posted March 27, 2004 Posted March 27, 2004 yea but if its called a 330 then its most likely to be a v6 but as you said if it were an inline ahgghhghghg inline (my homer simpson impersonation )
BlackSC4 Posted March 27, 2004 Posted March 27, 2004 i've also been thinking of the sc300/2jzgte swap for this summer. does any of you happen to know where is a good place to start looking for salvage sc300 bodies and a JDM 2jz? i know this one guy who found a JDM 2jzgte w/6spd for 3000 bucks. unfortunately i havent ran into him lately. **i've been reading brief infos about this swap, and i thought i read that the jdm wont be a perfect fit like the usdm's. i dont know if it is true, can anyone verify this?
AWJ Posted March 27, 2004 Posted March 27, 2004 It will bolt in. But the harness will not be a perfect fit. The 6 speed transmission is not a perfect fit. But it's close enough that it is doable.
BlackSC4 Posted March 27, 2004 Posted March 27, 2004 sounds good, we just got a welder too so modification for the tranny is possible. can't wait til summer comes around...
