mrberto Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 I recently bought a '02 ES300 with the valet key only. I see tons of keys on ebay and the such, ranging anywhere from $39 to $139. Is it possible for me to go this option route and program the key myself or does this need to be done by a locksmith or dealer. I don't even know what proper length of key I should be looking for. If anyone can help with any information, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
1990LS400 Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 My advice would be to do what I did when I bought my 2000 LS400 from an independent dealer/broker on a Friday evening in 2003. I went to the local Kansas City Lexus dealer the very next business day and bought an extra key set - it wasn't that expensive. The other keys eventually turned up from the auto auction but it is still comforting to have that third set of keys stashed away. If I already had a spare key, I might have taken my time and found a cheaper source.
mrberto Posted September 28, 2013 Author Posted September 28, 2013 Thanks. I live very close to Superior Lexus in KCMO. Any idea what I can expect the cost to be? If I could pull it off cheaper, I still wanna try.
1990LS400 Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 The price of a master key for your ES300 from Sewell in Texas where I have bought parts is about $177 with a forum member discount: http://lexus.sewellparts.com/accessories-catalog/Keys/ES300-2002/2807.html They require proof of ownership. Sewell shows a retail price of about $211 which is close to what I paid Superior Lexus for a master key for my LS in 2003. I suggest you check with Superior or maybe with Exact Performance in Mission, Kansas: http://www.exactauto.com/ Ben, the owner of Exact, was formerly with Superior and has maintained our Lexus and Toyota cars since he opened in 1998. 1
mrberto Posted October 1, 2013 Author Posted October 1, 2013 $400! Really?? I called the newest local dealer but was thrown back by the price. $239 for the fob, $150 to program it, plus tax and cut fee. I'm not really impressed with that. Is ther no DIY method of making this happen? Have to admit, I'm a little frustrated.
1990LS400 Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 $400? Those sharks must smell blood in the water! Google and you will find lots of programming instructions but I can't vouch for their accuracy: https://www.google.com/#q=2002+lexus+es300+key+programming
mrberto Posted October 5, 2013 Author Posted October 5, 2013 Any idea how I find out what my FCC ID is? I think that would be very key in my quest. (no pun intended)
gooden Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 Just drive to a Lexus dealership and pay up,its only way. Here it is around 300, I think the valet is less than $90,probabley 89.99. I was told only get it at Lexus, another inferior version is 1/2 price yet lacking longevity. Regards Gooden
Lexlogic Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 I did have a Master key made but I had a chip available for my Lexus Es300 2000. Here is a Website for ES300 2002 http://stores.ebay.com/1010keys/_i.html?_nkw=lexus+es300+2002+key&submit=Search&_sid=1009547818 This is the same website I used. Perhaps ask if they sell a chip for your Es300 2002 Master key replacement. Programing was easy. http://www.clublexus.com/gallery/data/500/key_prog.jpg I went to the Lexus dealer in person with my car registration, personal ID and asked them for my FCC ID code. They gave it without any problem.
