Long time lurker, first time poster (I'll take my answers off the air).

My 16 year old son and I have been cleaning and fixing a '93 SC400 for about six months now. It is his every day driver and has recently wanted to do some mod work on it with my help. After reading some threads on refurbing the gold badging we thought we would give it a try.

After one failed effort we got a pretty good look:

Please post a pic. I have been thinking about debadging my "IS250C" and replacing my chrome Lexus emblem with a dark pearl chrome one. I think it would go so good with my dark rims.

I have found a guy on Ebay that sells the whole set of emblems, but all I want is the Lexus emblem. The backend of my car is too busy for all that stuff.

I originally posted some before and after pics, hopefully they show up soon.

The first time we painted them we used a Rustoleum high gloss after a plastic prep cleaning. After a 24 hour dry we put on a Dupli-Color clear coat and it orange peeled. we stripped it back to gold and used a Rustoleum for plastic and omitted the clear coat.

It's a nice shiny black finish, almost a plasti coat look. We used a 3M tube glue for emblems to put them back on. They came loose fairly quickly so we reset them the next day with more glue.

Looks good. Great job. Looks much better than the gold. People don't realize what a little attention to detail can do for a vehicle.

There is a guy on Ebay that sells little carbon fibre looking inserts that go in the emblem. I'll find you a pic when I get a chance. I'm not much of a fan of CF, but I saw a Lexus with them today on my way to work. It actually looked pretty sharp. Now I have to decide which way I want to go.

That looks like the plastic one I got for my old SC300. it was a plastic sticker w/o inserts. Don't recommend.

You could consider wrapping your trunk lid with a carbon fiber wrap and attach the emblems on. Cleaner in my opinion.

I'm still just in the thinking stage. I have the dark rims and the dark grill. I need some dark on the back.

That is exactly what I want. Where can I get one? I don't read Japanese!! :geek:
