Satellite Radio

See if you can follow me on this: I have set up all 36 presets with XM channels - 6 to a page and six total pages. Let's say I am on page 1 and slot #3 is 07 - very quickly I want to go to page 4 #5 preset - what would be the easiest and quickest way to do this? I could keep hitting the arrows in the wheel - but that would take a good 30 seconds. I could use the Navigation system - calling up the radio - then making sure it's on XM - then taking the mouse and start flipping pages - but do I really want to do that while I am driving? Is there a clear simple and easy way to do this (to jump to a preset three or four pages from where you are)?

Hi Jerry,

Interesting situation to which I've never tried duplicating. Before we go on, which one of your cars are you working with? The 07 or the 13'.

If it's alright with you, I'd like to go out and sit in my car for awhile and see if I can find a short cut that would help reach your goal. In the mean time, someone else may chime in and have an answer.

Thanks Paul - I have asked this question on a few Lexus sites and still have not received a good answer. The best response I have recieved thus far is someone told me told down the arrow on the steering wheel - it will beep and take me fast to my stations. It does not do that - it starts scanning every station on XM - not the ones you have as preset.

By the way, thi sis for our new 2013 ES 300h

Try this link to Lexus customer support.

Let us know what you find out.

Paul thanks for the info on the web site - as I filled out the form to send - and stated it was a technical question - the auto response stated that for technical questions I had to go to my dealer - which I already have and they couldn't supply the correct answer.

Jerry I just finished a lived chat with Lexus Customer support. They couldn't find an answer or explnation of how it works. They suggested talking with XM Sat. directly at 877-515-3987. Lexus said that they are familiar with the Lexus software and how it displays the pages and stores the folders. I asked, "What if this doesn't hwlp?" They said we should call Lexus customer service and press number 2.

I have no idea if this will get you what you want. Let's hope. Let me know what you find out.

Does the 2013 have a "SAT" button on the dash? How about a "MODE" button on the steering wheel?

In my 2010 to scroll through the different SAT pages for presets, you hit "SAT" and it will sequentially flip through the pages. On the steering wheel you can hit MODE and accomplish the same thing, although when you reach the last SAT page it will go to the next radio mode, be that AUX, FM, etc...

I've actually explained this problem to Lexus corporate and to Sirius XM - neither one was of any help. Here is what happens when you hit mode: it toggles between radio, sat, cd, etc. The arrows on the steering wheel: Lexus dealership told me to just hold down the arrows until you hear a beep and it will fast forward through the stations. It does do that; however, it fast forwards through every XM station there is - not your presets. So that doesn't work either.

What happens when you give the arrow key two quick taps instead? Don't hold it, just click it twice. I'm shooting in the dark here, cause I don't have presets and don't care to set them up either. I know the 5 stations I like and just use the knob or the arrows to dial them in. But I'd be curious to know if two quick taps on the arrow keys would allow you to tab through your presets.

We went shopping this morning and instead of joining my wife to the store, I stayed in the car and played with this a bit. I never keyed in any presets ... but it looks like the dealer did it for me, they're all there. When I press an arrow key on the steering wheel and hold it until I hear a beep, it moves to the next preset, up or down, depending which key I used. Isn't that what you're looking for? If not, the next best thing is to use the knob, which works very fast. :D

For the arrows on the steering wheel - you only need to press them quickly (don't need to wait for the beep) and it will go to the next preset. If you wait for the beep (at least on mine) then it will begin to scan every XM station - this is where I was hoping it would scan all of the presets (but it doesn't). And, right, the next best thing is just turning the knob (not the most convenient thing to do).

Jerry -- I too am trying to figure out how to jump from page to page quickly. I was wondering if you have gotten this problem resolved since your October discussions? If not, do you have any ideas how we can get attention to this matter at the proper levels of Lexus or XM radio? al_z

Yes..if there were only two or three stations involved they could be slotted next to each other, but Lexus provided a system that can store 36 stations and I assume intended to do this to make the use of the radio simple. Although the work-around will meet an immediate need it is a step backwards. Keep in mind that the system also stores AM and FM and HD, and if different pages are used for each there should be an easy way to get to each segment. Also I believe that previous years had band select buttons. Why get rid of this capability? I'm betting it was an oversight when they went to the '13. (My after-market Kenwood in my Saab has the ability to change bands by touch screen). I'm hoping that XM and Lexus get together on this ASAP and come up with a software fix that can be installed easily.

"Please feel free to view how-to video tutorials by:"

"• Utilizing the free Lexus Enform® Mobile App to your smart device and selecting "Vehicle Information"

• Accessing the Lexus YouTube channel at www.lexus.com/tutorials

• Visiting the Lexus Driver site at : www.LexusDrivers.com and selecting "How-to Videos""

"Once again, please contact your dealership Lexus Technology Specialist if you have any questions regarding the features in your vehicle or contact our Lexus Customer Assistance Center at 1-800-255-3987."

(I recieved this e-mail today from Lexus and watched some of the tutorials and U-Tubes. Some helpful, others pretty basic. Their are a few parts that gave me some glimers of hope on how to solve some of these problems, but don't know for sure. Check them out and see if you can learn any thing.)

Lexus has and is in the process of adding a "Technical Support Specialist" at each dealer. I'm not sure wether Lexus helps support the cost of this position, but my dealer has just added one and Steve W's has one as well.

When I took delivery of my 2013, he spent about 20 minutes with me going over all the new stuff. If your dealer has this position, I would Highly recomend getting together with them, (it's free) and go over the audio and nav features. They know everything about the new technology.

I have a related question: does anyone know how to delete a radio preset? Being able to step through the presets is nice, but most of the presets in my 2013 GS are not anything I want and I would like to remove them so I don't 'visit' them as I step through.

I have a 2013 ES 350 with NAV and satellite radio. I find this system to be very poorly designed. To change a radio/satellite station I am required to take my eyes off the road and go thru whatever presets I have on the device. I traded in a 2006 Avalon with a JBL radio and pushbuttons for the various stations. One could easily change stations by touch while maintaining view of the road ahead.

I wish I had the same radio in my Lexus. I am very disappointed in the radio design and I think that it is very dangerous to use while driving. I have found no way to expediently change radio stations with this system. I'll bet my next paycheck that it gets redesigned in future vehicles.
