Same thing happened to me, in fact almost got me a couple times until I found a big stick to stick in there. Okay, so as you heard, buy them on ebay, well you can but there are other options for you. I looked at the replacements on ebay, online sites and dealerships and I thought the prices were wayyyy --- high. Somewhere right here on LOC I read about how to replace with Autozone struts and I bought 2 for maybe $20 and used them. I did have to grind a little but it was easy with pretty simple tools (like a Dremel) and they have worked great (better than what Lexus made anyway) for over 7 years. All it takes is research and questions.

If you look on Amazon, there are strongarm hood struts available quite cheap and the reviews are quite excellent. I would go that route!
