Nav Voice Command

I am a new 2012 RX 450 H owner that does not have access to a 12 year old to help with NAV operation. The general problem I am having is epitomized by not knowing how to find "Costco," while driving. I do not know, nor can find a POI category for it, yet, I can enter the name while in park, so, surely it has an associated category.

Related, is it possible to enter, while parked, a generic...not address-specific Costco or other POI?

Finally, when I call up a POI category, only three appear. How do I expand the number or scroll through others that surely exist.

Hello Scott, and welcome to the Lexus Owners Club. I'm sorry it's taken one of us so long to get with you but I think we can clear up a few questions.

First of all, it is appalling that your Lexus dealer couldn't help you out. Anyone using your owners Navigation User's Manual, could figure this out.

The first thing it sounds like you've learned, is that you can only enter adress, destination, route, etc while the car is stoped. However, you can also enter information while the car is in motion using the voice activation feature. This is explained in your owners manual.

In terms of POI, the system begins with 4 ways to search by points of interest. i.e., search by name; searby category; search by eDestination. As you follow deeper into those menus, you'll find more and more refined choices to pin-point your destinatio.

Since your RXh is a 2012 I'm assuming you still have the one year trial of the "Enform" service. This is a wonderful system that you just push a button on the overhead console and tell the operator where you you need to go, even if you don't have an adress. This you can do while driving. They then send the direction to your navigation unit and you just press go to, and off you go.

Thank you for your response Paul but it doesn't seem to help. In order to locate Costco while driving, what exactly are the voice commands. My reading of the NAV manual plus trial and error leads me to believe I must know the POI category that Costco is under. I have no idea what that is and do not know how to find it. I tried the obvious ones in the manual. No luck. The Lexus salesman said Costco must not part of the Nav programming. This makes little sense to me because I can find it when in park by manually typing in the name. Surely there is a way to find it while driving.

As Paul said if you have the enform service hit the button and let them program the NAV for you.

I have never had any luck with the voice commands and as far as I am concerned you will frustrate yourself much more than if you just pull over and enter the address where you want to go. I am sorry and I know that is not what you want to hear but the VR software is far from perfect.
