lexus4mk25
I had my oil changed recently and kept checking to see if any oil leaks would occur due to loose oil plugs and other such oversights of a careless mechanic. I do now have an oil leak, so I took the car into the folks who changed the oil. After an examination they said that it is from the rear engine seal. As per my observation oil is leaking at the rate of a few drops per night. The mechanic says that as long as the oil levels are ok, I don't need to worry about it in the short run, but eventually I need to get the seal replaced. My questions: 1. Does all this sound reasonable? 2. Any cost estimates to get this seal changed? 3. Any other work I should look into getting done when I get the seal changed? I purchased this car (94 ES 300) recently with 134300 miles on it. So far all I have changed are the front brake pads and the engine oil. Car now has 135900 miles. I'm not into second hand cars with such high mileage, but I went ahead with the purchase because of Lexus' reputation and more so because of my assessment that the owner had maintained the car pretty well and as per the regular schedule (I have all records). The car still runs great! and I want it to stay that way. Thanks for your time folks :)
lexus4mk25
After searching in several ways (should've used the direct approach) I found some post on this forum dealing with estimates. Aamco was suggested as a possible provider of the service. Any feedback? I dont have a Lexus dealership within 200 miles but there is a toyota one. Will call them for quote. Quotes aside, how long can I put this repair off? Will the rate of leak provide an indicator when the problem should be addressed? Thanks
JPI
It could be the rear main seal. But you need to have it check out throughly. Where are you located in tx? We are independent Lexus and Toyota repair shop located in the garland area. JPI
lexus4mk25
Yeah, I'm in TX 4hrs from Dallas. I called JPI, left a message. I may be in Dallas in the first week of March, not sure. Do you take walk-ins? How much for a thorough inspection of the engine.
