Transmission Noise

Hi all,

I bought my 1992-SC400 last fall with 175K/Km on it, 3rd. owner.

Lately when I accelerate I feel and hear a vibration as if I was driving on rippled pavement. The vibration comes and goes and seem to occur when the car is cold, (I live in Canada near Ottawa). Am I close to loose my transmission or is it the tork converter that is going???

Other work planned for 2004;

-Remove, clean and reseal the headlights

-Replace bulbs in the climate control display

-Install a good air filter

-Paint touchup

I'm a electronic tech and know very little about mechanics,

thanks for all replies

How are your shocks? Is it rubbing against springs? what's the height of your car--ground to bottom skirt?

Thanks for your answers JZZ30 and UCF3

I will have my mecanic check my tranny supports and have it flushed while on the lift. I'll see if it goes away.

Had just a slight vibration since yesterday at around 30 MPH.

My suspension is in great shape and the height is OK too, the shuddering really seems to occur during acceleration and gear changes.

I have also read in this forum that the tork converter might be faulty.

First things first, i'll have the transmission support checked, hoping its the cure.

:D

Let us know asap blueboy, I have the EXACT same problem. It happens right in the beginning of 2nd gear.

Hi Hershy67,

Getting an appointment tomorrow with my tranny expert.

I want to have the transmission oil flushed and have the supports checked at the same time.

I'll probably have news in a week or 2.

I'll be back!

Hi Hershy67,

I had my transmission oil flushed (radiator, transmission.. all the oil was flushed and new oil in), my mecanic said it was pretty dark.

He checked the tranny supports and said that all is rock solid under there.

I haven't had any shuddering yet since (drove only .5 hour).

In the troubleshooting section of the repair manual it says that slip or shudder of the transmission can occur if one or more of these parts are faulty;

-throttle cable adjustment

-transmission control rod

-oil strainer

-O/D one way clutch

-O/D direct clutch

-torque converter

Alike you, I noticed that the vibration occurs most of the time at low RPM (no kickdown) when it's changing from 2nd to 3rd gear.

Hoping this is helpfull in any way.

Cheers! Blue
