davidford
I looked at the manual on my IS 250 regarding routine maintenance. My recollection (on other cars I have owned) is that the automatic transmission fluid on a vehicle should be changed every 30,000 to 40,000 miles. I did not find a reference to that in the manual on the IS 250. Maybe I overlooked it. Nonetheless, what should the interval be for replacing the fluid? They stated that the fluid should last the lifetime of the car and will never need to be changed. I was like.....ok.
PlutoTKH
Same question on my 2002 IS300. No mention of auto trans fluid interval in the manual. There's a sticker on the dipstick that says something like 'does not require changing under normal driving conditions' - but I now have 140K, and there's a lag shifting from 2nd to 3rd (I do stick to 'normal' driving). Should I change it anyway ? Thanks !
IS250_rookie
2IS auto transmissions are sealed - you cannot drain the fluid. So that's why there is nothing in the maintenance handbook, and why Lexus consider it a lifetime fluid.
JohnIS250
The transmission on the RWD IS250 has a "overflow" plug on the bottom of the transmission pan. And a refill plug on the drivers side of the transmission housing. So it's not technically sealed. I was told a drain and fill would be only 1.48 quarts of fluid replaced out of the 7.92 quarts of the entire transmission. Thats only about 18.69% of fluid being replaced each time. Not alot compared to some other vehicles.
LEX-SV
I'm not touching it. Fluid will remain in car during my ownership period.

tootles
The fluid is good for 100,000 miles according to the dealership.
LEX-SV
To attempt to change the fluid risks doing harm on these vehicles, therefore no action required.
