old horse Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 I have a 1999 RX300 with approx. 88K miles. The check engine light came on and I found a PO 171 code. I cleaned the MAF sensor and replaced it. Code gone. Today my wife used the car and the light came back on. I checked the codes and the PO 171 was back with PO 300, PO 302, PO 304 and PO 306. Has anyone else bumped into this series of error codes? Are there any suggestions as to how to proceed? Thanks.
lenore Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 those codes indicate a bad coil pak....reset the codes and see which one comes up.
old horse Posted December 8, 2010 Author Posted December 8, 2010 those codes indicate a bad coil pak....reset the codes and see which one comes up. Thanks. I erased the codes and today a new one came up, P1133. This points to the A/F sensor. Is this OBD code roulette common? I erased this code and will try again to see what pops up.

Its more of a "cascade of failures", one problem triggers problems in other areas. When I had my coil failures, I'd pull the codes and there'd be a bunch codes, but once I cleared them the first one that came back was usually the true culprit.

RX in NC Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 The P0300 code points to misfires, with the last digit of the following codes indicating which cylinder the misfire is occuring in. Judging by your post, you are experiencing misfires in cylinders 2, 4, and 6. Usual cause is indeed faulty coil packs as pointed out by Lenore, but other potential causes could be vacuum leaks, failing spark plugs, and failing bank sensors. Given the age of your vehicle, I would bet that your coil packs are beginning to fail....
lenore Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 Read my other post about cylinder 2,4,6 which indicates faulty coil firing or camshaft out of time.
