Zdeno Posted February 13, 2004 Posted February 13, 2004 Hi guys, when I don´t drive 2 or more days (when the car is close to long) and then I come to my LS 400 1991 167K It smells Like the coolant in cabin but I checked all the hoses and didn´t find any cracks. Does anybody have advice ? Thank you
99lsguy Posted February 13, 2004 Posted February 13, 2004 From my past expeerience, when you smell coolant; the heater core is going bad ........... Does it get worse when you run the heater?
Zdeno Posted February 13, 2004 Author Posted February 13, 2004 no it doesn´t. I usually open the windows and clean air and then I don´t smell anything. When I turn on the heater, it doesn´t smell bad.
VMF Posted February 13, 2004 Posted February 13, 2004 when you turn the heat on without AC you windows and windshield specifically get foggy?
wwest Posted February 13, 2004 Posted February 13, 2004 Are you sure it's coolant you smell and not mould and mildew?? Old, sweaty and dirty gym socks odor??
Zdeno Posted February 14, 2004 Author Posted February 14, 2004 wiondows doesn´t get foggy and it doesn´t smell like a socks.
wwest Posted February 14, 2004 Posted February 14, 2004 Just to sure... Most coolants have a sickeningly sweet odor. Sorry, no delete option...
wwest Posted February 14, 2004 Posted February 14, 2004 Just to sure... Most coolants have a sickeningly sweet odor. It doesn't take much of a coolant leak to create LOTS of odor. The water valve for coolant flow into the heater core is at the top center of the firewall in the engine compartment. That's the most common leak source, the hose fittings around this valve.
