Kapt'n Kain!
Hey guys, I'm running a 1999 RX300 AWD with 185k miles on it. My family's owned it for the better part for 10 years, and most of it's miles have been highway miles. Now that we've got a brand new RX400h as our ski trip hauler, I have purchased the RX300. It's a great car, no complaints. It has come to my knowledge that these cars are very prone to "sludging up". To my knowledge, regular oil has been used up till very recently. I drive a very limited route - just to work and back for the most part - on average 10-15 miles a day. Is there anything I should look out for? Is there any way I could check for sludge buildup? Ericok
You have to remove one or both valve covers in order to see if there is any sludge buildup.
TomC
Don't worry about it. Use synthetic oil and change it every 6 months or 5000 mi, whatever comes first. I'd recommend at least 30 minutes of high speed driving once a week to keep the condensation in the engine under control. Tom
