My LS 400 has 136000 miles (92 model) and has become very hard to start and acts very flooded when it does eventually start. It has a great deal of smoke at initial startup and will not idle until the engine rpm has been elevated to around 3000 rpms for a few seconds.

The car then appears to run o.k until it is turned off when the whole process starts all over again.

have changed the two front o-2 sensors and the temperature sensor after jumping the pins to get a flash code to no avail.

at a losss without a dealer within a hundred miles and no way to get a code by a computer.

HOW BOUT A LITTLE HELP OUT THERE?

SURELY, I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE EVER TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM.

I REPLACED THE PLUGS LAST NIGHT AND NOTICED THAT THERE APPEARED TO BE A CONTINUAL DRIPPING OF GAS THRU THE INTAKE.

HAVE THE CAR AT A LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER TODAY SINCE NO LEXUS SERVICE IS WITHIN 100 MILES.

THEY SAID THERE IS A FUEL SHUTOFF VALVE WITH A DIAPRAM IN IT THAT MAY BE LEAKING

THE AIR CLEANER WAS SATURATED WITH GASOLINE

It could be the fuel shutoff valve. Other than that, I really don't know what to tell you.

Let us know what the Toyota dealer says when they call you back.

If you're getting a lot of smoke it could be a piston ring - that may also be causing a loss of compression and the hard starting / bad running

Get your shop to do a compression test for you
