could be slipping tranny, how is the tranny overall?

With such limited information it sounds like there's an issue with the tachometer or input to the tach from the ECM. Need more info.

Not quite sure what you mean, but have looked at my rev counter and cruising at 70mph it is just above 2 (slightly higher when under acceleration and just below 2 at 60mph).
